We are foregoing our PS so we can save up more money for the actual wedding and while I'm really bummed about it I'm also pretty excited to be saving myself about $1200 bucks! Sooo bittersweet..

My question is this, without a tasting session and things like that how did you choose and customize your menu? We are trying to stay as close as possible to the PP food and beverage minimum (but we are including a hosted bar, the lowest one with liquor and stuff) how did you manage this without actually tasting the food and cake? Which ones did you chose? Were you surprised (pleasantly) or disappointed with your choices?

And for brides that DID attend a tasting session:What would you reccommend for a pretty mainstream but nice wedding reception meal? And what cake flavors would you reccommend?

DF and I are pretty simple eaters. Not "foodies" by any means. We enjoy a good steak and stuff like that and my guests are the same way, just your average people I guess?!? If I could serve comfort food at my wedding and have it super classy I would! Dont know if that helps or not..sorry I'm all over the place!

I TOTALLY hear what you are saying!

What is your price range per person for food?

Well since were trying to stay very close to the minimum for a dinner (125pp) we so far are allowing 43 for alcohol, 12.50 for cake, which will leave us about 70 pp for a dinner. I realize that may be a little low so I think the absolute max would be around 80-85. That should provide a pretty decent meal, right? I know I definitely want to customize a menu I just dont know what elements will provide the most bang for buck and taste the best at the same time...:confused3

TIA!! :goodvibes

Hi Sarah

If you don't mind me asking which bar package did you pick? And for how many hours? Are you having it open bar for the cocktail hour and the entire reception? I am trying to figure it all out too. I have the $125 pp too and don't want to go over that. Also how did you come up with the $12.50 pp for the cake? Sorry for so many questions :rolleyes1

Thanks

Yay for saving $1200 :yay:

I'd love to hear about the cake flavours as being in the UK we can't go back for a PS either....

I dont mind at all! We have the bar package for 5 hours which does include our pre reception with house liquor, beer, wine, and sodas. The cake price of 12.50/slice is from the cake price sheet. (they range from 6.50-14.50 i think..some may be a bit more expensive but there are only like 1 or 2 at that price..i think!) It is one of the most expensive ones and happens to be the price of one I am leaning towards the most, but also think we might do a custom cake..so I thought 12.50 was a safe bet to estimate. HTH, let me know if you have any other questions!

The beef short rib that they served at the Bridal Showcase was beyond amazing. It's a for sure for us... so glad we can have it since we switched locations!! Maybe do that, a mashed potato and a veggie??

i'm sad you won't be able to go :( i wish you could jump in my suitcase and come with us in may, lol. we'd let you stay in our villa all incognito and stuff :rotfl: i understand the money stuff... it's a priority. now i'm all hyped up about the beef short rib. the risotto was great too. lunch is still 50 minutes away sarah... way to go getting me all hungry!

bahahaha enjoy your cafeteria food today Deena! :rotfl: especially with ribs on the brain, it'll be hard to match that! but easter lunch should be good! use your imagination and your halfway there! I SOOO wish I could stowaway in yalls suitcases, I really would!! Im disappointed but am talking myself out of sadness...over and over and over again..lol.

We really were happy with everything we tasted at our PS. We aren't foodies either and wanted a reasonable price. We're doing a buffet for $63 pp and it includes:

Caesar salad (seriously the best I've ever had...can't wait for this!)
Seasonal veggies (didnt try but how can you screw this up?)
Parmesan crusted chicken breast with no mushroom sauce (really yummy!)
Deep fried turkey with sauces (also really yummy, didnt think I'd like it...glad we tried it)
Fettucine alfredo (super yum - my favorite thing we tasted - it was really light and airy but had such a good flavor)
Yukon gold mashed potatoes topped with aged cheddar and served with sour cream and priscutto served in martini glasses

Really basic, normal food for a decent price. We cut out the penne ala vodka that we tired at the PS because we felt 2 pastas would be too much. I feel like it's a lot of food (plus we have the cocktail hour, cake, and dessert party so I didnt want to over feed everyone) for a good price. We aren't doing a red meat which I was nervous about but the meats we did pick are so yummy. We tried a beef dish at the tasting but I hated it and so did DF. We both like steak but this wasn't good...but we are picky about how its cooked and it was a carving station so thats really why we got rid of it. Maybe if we were doing a plated dinner where everyone could say how they wanted it cooked we would have done it.

Hope this helps! I took pictures of most of the items so let me know if you want to see them.

Oh, as far as cake goes - I left it up to DF. He chose marble cake with amaretto filling for the bottom and almond cake with raspberry filling for the top. Cake is cake to me - it all tastes good lol. I would think if you pick something you already know you like, you wont be disappointed.

Hey Sarah

Ok so understand the bar packages. We think we are going to pick the premium wines and liquors package for 5 hours which runs 48.50 pp. It's a little more than I wanted to designate for liquor but my family is wine drinkers and I thought the options were a little better in that package.

Now for the cake pricing sheet. I can not understand it at all. :confused3 The only form I have is what my consultant sent me. I just got my planner today so will I be getting a more detailed cake price sheet with pictures?

I appreciate all the help. I am so stressing about how much everything is going to cost. We are a desination wedding as well but we already have 81 yes and maybe more to come :scared1: How many do you think you will get?

Oh man, that all sounds soooo good! I'm glad you added in the little snippet about red meat, since that's kind of where my mind went for our menu. I heard all of the plated meal steaks were good, but maybe not so much for buffet style? That's disappointing.
I have also heard very good things about the...what is it called...truffle mickyroni and cheese or something? I don't think you will have any problems at all customizing a plentiful menu for $70/pp!

I think you will be fine with not having a tasting...just pick the foods that sound good to you and I'm sure they will be. I loved all the food at my tasting session, even the lamb that I am only having for my fiance. I usually don't care for lamb but they made the best lamb I've ever had in my life and I finished all of it....I'm not advocating lamb, just letting you know how well they prepare everything.

DVC bride...I'm guessing you don't like the mushroom sauce. I don't like mushrooms so I asked if there were other sauces they could do, and they started listing 6 or 7 sauces, then they said lemon dill cream sauce and I jumped on that, so it will be parmesean crusted chicken with lemon dill sauce on the side. Maybe you can ask about another sauce to be served on the side with your chicken, unless of course not having any is saving $.
