Hi! wow! this is my very first thread! :sunny:

Please! I need help. We will be at All Star Movies Oct 21-30. We requested a fridge (I know it is a request and it is not guaranteed). This is a budget trip so we are trying to save costs when possible, being one of them using ME and wegoshop for snacks and breakfast.

We don't live in the US so I'm having a little trouble with my list for wegoshop since I don't know all options available.

What I have for breakfast:

For DD4
Danimals
Milk
fruits (strawberries, bananas, grapes, apples)
Cereal
Flour tortillas and cheese (she could live on cheese forever!)

For DD1, she's allergic to eggs, cow milk and wheat
Rice/oatmeal cereal (gerber)
Enfamil soy milk
cheerios (breakfast, snacks)
jars of baby food

What I need are different snacks.... like those crackers and cheese? no peanut butter, we tried it and she doesn't like it (I don't blame her, I don't either!). She likes pringles but I'd like something healthier if possible. I'm in panic mode... :rotfl2: we leave in a month and still have so much to do and and and I'd like to go tomorrow!!!!!

Is there something else besides cheerios? oatmeal cereal that DD1 could try? oh! I forgot I also have the fruit and veggies snacks from gerber... haven't tried them yet but I've seen them in magazines.... She loves cheerios... although doesn't have a single tooth yet! she "chews" with her gums...

And for us.... we'll besides peanut butter I eat everything.... (and I mean EVERYTHING!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: )... DH is the same. We'll get yougurt, cereal, fruits... he specifically asked for Chips Ahoy (sp?), that's what he and his brothers like the most when they travel to the US when they were kids.... granola bars... any brand that you would recommend?

Thank you very much! I appreciate your help!

I have an order placed for our trip in two weeks and they have been great via e-mail. Just send them an e-mail with your questions and how best to make your list and they will let you know how they like to handle it.

I went through my grocery list and was very specific - ie Honey Nut cheerios, 14 oz box, Wonder Bread, whole wheat 1 loaf, Cranberry Juice, any brand 48 oz. etc.

I am not sure you need to be that specific but I wanted to make it easy as possible and get the things we like.

FWIW - I am pretty sure that cheerios contain wheat so you may want to look for oatios or something comparable without the wheat flour.

Did you tell the hotel that you needed a fridge due to your DD's allergies - might be worth a mention!

Thanks for your help! I wanted to be as specific as possible for the same reason, to make it easier for them. I know I want Danimals for example but I don't really care about what brand of cheese they get me.... I'll send them an email.

:earseek: Do they??????? She has been eating cheerios for a month and a half! and I can say it is her favorite!!!!!!! (after rice/oatmeal cereal with milk....) I started those before knowing she was allergic to wheat and didn't see anything strange with her. Well.... I must add that her wheat allergy is very low (minor? I'm not sure about terminology....) and cheerios were approved by her doctor. I'll have to double check with him but she doesn't show any reaction to cheerios.... I haven't heard about oatios.... will look for them.

Thanks, I hadn't thought of this but you are right, I'll give them a call.

Some snacks my 3yo and 1yo like to eat (unfortunately I don't know anything about possible wheat content - sorry!):

raisins [okay - this one has no wheat ;) ]
dried cranberries (I get them at Trader Joe's but I believe a supermarket brand might be the Ocean Spray "Craisin" product)
(all other dried fruits work fine but some are too sticky for travel or days in the park)

graham crackers
rice cakes (I get the plain ones)
baked potato chips (rather than the regular kind)
pita chips
goldfish crackers (maybe too salty for days in the park?)

Also, string cheese is nicely packaged into small portions that can be taken along if eaten early in the day

Hope these inspire some ideas,

I think I'll just copy/paste your suggestions into my list! great ideas! thanks. I had totally forgotten about raisins and DD4 picky eater loves them! I don't know what the rice cakes are, have never had them before but I'll try them. As for the wheat part.... since she can have cheerios and she doesn't have a reaction... she might be able to eat products with wheat as long as it is in small quantities.

Thanks! :Pinkbounc

My dd has food allergies as well. You can get a refrigerator at no cost for medical need. I just called and was told we would get one because of my dd's FA's.

As far as Cheerios, they have wheat starch which basically removes most of the protein. Some people with wheat allergies can tolerate them but most avoid them. Also, because your dd has many food allergies you really should avoid all nuts with her until she is a little older. They are highly allergenic.

They used to have two sizes of refrigerators - small ones that could keep medication cold, and the soewhat larger dorm size. Don't know what they offer now, but you might want to ask what size the fridge is...

Rice cakes are round cakes of puffed rice (think hamburger-patty shaped). They're crunchy and light (with no wheat!). DD2 likes them because I will give her big pieces to munch on and she feels like a "big girl", lol. (She's 14mo so most of her food is given to her in small pieces).

Rice cakes come plain, salted, and lots of different flavors, both sweet and salty. Quaker makes "mini-rice cakes" which they coat with stuff like ranch, cheese or caramel coatings. Since my kids like the plain ones right now, I haven't tried the others which I suspect are far less healthly but probably still better for them than potato chips...

A friend of mine gets the cheese in a can that you can "squirt" onto crackers while you're out and about.

Do your kids like fruit roll-ups? I was thinking about getting them for our next trip, maybe the kinds that have designs punched in them so they can be entertained with them while in line.

Does anyone know if they still sell those instant "cous cous in a cup - just add hot water" thngs? I used to get then in a twelve pack at Costco in San Francisco - perfect for middle of the night munchies.

Cheers,

Here's an idea that might help you find appropriate American foods. In our city, Washington DC we have an online grocery store called "peapod". If you go to their site (www.peapod.com) you'll be able to see ingredient lists for all sorts of foods. The foods they offer are pretty typical for American grocery stores, so it might give you a chance to see what is and isn't safe. We use it all the time at my nursery school. I'll print out ingredient lists and give them to parents so they can tell me which snacks are safe without me having to buy a bunch of snacks for them to read the labels.

I just called to let them know we needed the fridge for DD1 food allergies as suggested. It is funny how it all depends on the CM who answers the phone! she made sure to tell me twice I STILL HAVE TO PAY THE $10 each day.... I wasn't asking for her to waive the charges... just wanted to make sure they knew we needed the fridge to store special food! :sunny:

And now that I think of this.... we wanted to cut costs on food.... but we have to pay for the fridge :rotfl: and I didn't really stopped to think that I wouldn't be able to get all DD1's "special" food just anywhere! When we first booked we didn't know about her allergies... she was just starting on solids!

Oh well... the CM was very nice though.... just wanted to let me know that food allergies didn't make any difference in costs! :teeth:

Sandra, I did hold on nuts with our oldest daughter because of potential allergies... so we planned to do that this time as well... DD4 is not allergic at all.... DD1 got all our "allergic" genes from both sides! doctor says she most likely will outgrow them.... hopefully she will!

I didn't know they had two sizes but since she put it was for food it shouldn't be a problem.

I'll try the rice cakes, actually I think DD1 will like them. She likes "crunchy" food to smash with her gums. They have never had fruit roll-ups... I've seen them in one store but they sell them by bulk and I didn't want to end up with tons of fruit roll-ups if they didn't like them!

I checked www.peapod.com and already got several items for my list! thanks!

Thank you all for your ideas/suggestions

Karla
