My DS 9 (soon to be 10) wants to have a scavenger hunt in our neighborhood for part of his party. I need help w/ a list of things to have them hunt for. We did this w/ our church youth group a few years back but I can't remember what was on their list. Any suggestions? Thanks!

It has been a LONG time since I have done a scavenger hunt, but let's see what I can think of.
a penny from 1999(or some other specific year)
a candy heart
bobby pin
red ink pen
something with Mickey Mouse on it ::MickeyMo

I'm drawing a blank now.....

Hope this helps! These were from a family reunion we had last summer. ;)

Here are a few that always made things interesting in our scavenger hunts:

An EXPIRED pizza coupon
Empty Haggan-Daaz Ice cream contain w/lid (we actually had a lady finish it up and hand it to the kids)
A cut in half penny or a coin minted in the year of your DS's birth
Shampoo & Lotion from the same hotel (conditioner can be added for difficulty)
In-N-Out burger-ketchup packet
Dried Kidney bean
A Cork
Broken Golf Club
Sock with a hole in it
Baby Bottle liner (Playtex)
Empty toilet paper / paper towel roll

We loved out scavenger hunts - have fun!

We also had a rule that no one house could provide more than 3 of the items on the list.

here are some random weird things:

- a tropical fruit (mango, pineapple, etc.)
- a milkbone
- a burnt-out lightbulb
- a completed crossword puzzle/sudoko from the newspaper
- a diaper
- a (red/green/blue etc) thumbtack
- a shell or shell fragment from seafood (lobster shell, oyster shell, etc)
- a really huge rubber band
- an empty can of hairspray
- a calendar from last year
- a "wheat" penny
- a radish/rutabega
- a piece of tinsel
- a piece of christmas wrapping paper
- a lollipop
- a hershy bar wrapper
- a cardboard toilet paper roll
- a sample-sized toiletry item
- a tinker-toy piece or a lincoln log
- a sparkly barette
- a "test print" page from a printer
- colored rocks from a fish tank
- a salt/pepper packet
- a rice krispie treat
- a plastic bag from a particular grocery store
- a stick of juicy fruit gum
- a spork
- a bendy drinking straw
- a specific color of crayola crayon (brick red, navy blue, whatever)

Just make sure you don't do it at night. ;)

Seriously...a few years ago, right after DH and I first moved in I was home alone one night when my doorbell rings. It's fairly late in the evening--around 9:30 at night and of course, I'm freaking out a little because my doorbell isn't supposed to be ringing at that hour.

So I go to the peephole and look out, only to see a group of 3-4 teenagers (probably 13-14 or so) standing on my door in the dark. I turn on the light and open the door. They are on a scavenger hunt. I tell them their mom (or whoever) shouldn't be sending them to walk around the neighborhood at that hour and that they need to go home. One of them (the leader?) tells me they have to find all of this stuff for their scavenger hunt. I tell them I don't have whatever it is they are lookig for (chocolate chip cookie dough, tortilla chips and something else..I don't remember). I also told them not to bother X and Y (the next two houses down, friends of ours).

I don't know what happened to the kids after that but I sure did think it was odd for them to be wandering around at night.

Five minutes later, another group on the same scavenger hunt comes by and I told them to tell their friends to not come to my house or X and Y's houses either.
