Help - rent car there or book in Canada?

We are flying into Orlando on Nov 27th for 15 days. Is it better to rent a car through Holiday House before we go or arrange a rental once we are there? Would appreciate any help anyone can give us. Thanks.

I would be hesitant to rent a car without booking it prior to departure. Many companies offer discounts if you book in advance, and you will also guarantee the type of car you'll get. If you only need a compact car and all they have left in the lots are Lincolns or SUVs you could potentially be paying for a lot more car than you need.

We've always booked months in advance and have been able to get good rates that way. Whether things have changed in the aftermath of 9/11 I don't know.

Book it here so you can be rest assured that you can get a car and the type that you need. You wouldn't want to be sitting in Orlando airport trying to find a car, when you could be doing better things. We've always go great rates before hand.

Welcome to the DIS, Rockies. Some companies (National, Avis, Dollar and a few others) have branches right in the airport in Orlando and are very convenient. Others, like Alamo, have a nearby branch, but it means taking a shuttle bus. We were very happy with National on our last trip. Their website is at http://www.nationalcar.com . We joined National's Emerald club, (at that time it was free through our Magic Kingdom Club membership) which added to both the savings and the convenience.

Last April, we pre-booked an econo car from Hertz, no down payment req'd YIPPY! When we got to Hertz (off site, but EXCELLENT), we asked if there were any *specials* and I had my Entertainment Book. We got an incredible rate for an SUV ~ Ford Explorer. I was so impressed. Try to book here WITHOUT $$$$ down. You can ALWAYS change your mind in FL.
