We borrowed points from OUR DEC 02 use year to make ressies at HHI. Our plans have changed and we changed our ressies to include a stop at BCV before going to HHI. We now have 11 points left over in a holding account with an expiration of 11-30-02. What are my options if any? Thanks in advance.

Not much. About all you can do is try to use them for a one-night stay at possibly OKW (or other resort requiring 11 or lower points) in a studio during the week or rent that night to someone who may be looking for an extra studio night at OKW before end of November (and then you would actually have to be able to get the night the renter wants, which may be difficult).

Are you using only borrowed 2002 use year points for your trip? If some are 2001 use year points you can bank 11 of those into 2002.

Maybe you can substitute those points for different points that could be banked. You could try to use them for one night or rent them for a studio for one night.

By the signature, it looks like the trip is this month. So that's why they went into holding. Holding points can't be banked.

If you are unable to use those points by 11/30/02, you will lose them.

Vacation points in a holding account (because a DVC reservation was cancelled 30 days or less before arrival) can be used for a stay at a DVC resort as long as you book the reservation 60 days or less before you arrival date. You cannot use those points for anything at all after 11/30/02.

You can also use those points for an exchange through the Disney Collection, the Adventurer Collection, the Conceirge Collection or the World Passport Collection as long as you book it before 9/30/02. (You cannot book non-DVC options AND travel during the last 60 days of your use year). FWIW, all of these options cost more than 11 points. You'd have to borrow more points from 2002 to take advantage of them.

As already stated by DebbieB, holding points cannot be banked or borrowed.

Your options for these 11 points are quite limited. Subject to availability, you could book one weeknight in a studio at VB, HHI, OKW or a standard view at BWV. You could rent/transfer them to another member, give them away, or try to rent one night as described above. That's about it. I think I'd just resign myself to losing them and consider it a cost of getting those last minute days at BCV.

Enjoy your trip. It sounds like fun!

Because of the change from 30 days lead time to 60 days when using the holding account points, it is still possible many times to substitute them for regular points and then bank them but obviously not for a trip that will occur this August. I'd still say try to rent them for one night in a studio for someone and link that to their other reservations. Even if you just give them away, better than them totally going to waste. Good luck.

If you forget about what those points are worth in regards to DVC vacations, and only look at what you have in the way of actual annual fees associated with them, then depending upon your home resort, your true cash 'loss' is somewhere between $35 and $45, assuming you don't try to factor in the original purchase price.

So even if you wind up losing them completely, it's not the end of the world.
