I would really appreciate your input! I need to make a decision fast...which means I proably shouldn't make it! :) I just found airfare for all FIVE of us for $600 total...but we'd have to go in September. I am terribly afraid of the HEAT then..I heard average is 90 degrees! I just don't see the parks being enjoyable with four year olds in that kind of heat! But this would make it very affordable. What's a family to do?!

I think it depends on when it September. Free dining is happening, right? So you might be caught in a bunch of crowds. :(

How much would it be normally?

We already booked our room and evertyhing for October and while I knew the 'normal' airfare was 203.30/person I decided to cruise the airline sites a few weeks ago and found airfare for 128/person and couldn't pass it up, but we're already booked for everything.

I went two years in a row with my children in Sept. The first year my daughter was 21 months and I was expecting my second. We had a blast. The second time my oldest was 2.5 and the youngest was 8 months. Still had a blast. We'd just go early when the parks opened and stay until after lunch, then take a break during the hottest park of the day. Then went back in the late afternoon. Bought a few water bottles and ice creams, but they really did great. I'm from Texas so it gets really hot here. I won't say you really get used to that kind of heat, but it's doable. :)

PS we went during the free dining period (and took advantage of that both times--a really great deal!) and it was not crowded, esp if you go to the parks that are not having extra magic hours that day.

Normal is $220 a person...so we'd save huge if we went in Sept. It's the last week in Sept..and yes..I'm afriad of the free dining crowds as well...and the heat...I guess I should just wait. To be honest..I'd be miserable walking around a park in 90 degree heat all day..ya know? thanks.

Hey Karen,
We always go at the end of August so I have a lot of experience dealing with the heat. I much rather heat than crowds, heat you can work around. Some tips:
Forget commando disney. Even though you're walking around, there are plenty of places to take an air condition break. We switch up. We'll do alladins carpet ride, then maybe some thing cool like POTC.
Go back to the resorts during the hot part of the day. Parks are still open long enough to chill during the heat and return to the parks when it's cooler.

Where are you coming from? I'm from NYC so it's pretty hot on the east coast during the summer. I take the same precautions. You may catch a break and the weather at the end of sept may cool down (not much but hey every little bit counts)

If you think you'd really be miserable forget the savings and go when it's cooler.

Where can I find that deal? What airline/website? We are going in September.

We were there last year from Sept 17-22 and do not recall the heat being too much of an issue. Yes, it was hot. We're from Alabama and it's always hot here, too, so we were somewhat prepared. We had great "crowds". We didn't wait any longer than 10 min for any ride. The later in the week, we did notice more people, but it was great.

If you get great airfare, then I'd suggest you to go! I would go in Sept again in a heartbeat!! DH and I are going in Aug, and I am a little nervous about the heat, then. We'll be at Disney, so we really don't care about the heat!! We know our limits.

Hi,

We were planning to go back in November, but friends of ours priced a trip out when the free dining was being offered, and when she told me how inexpensive it was, I just had to check it out! We got airfare for $91.00 each - YES - ROUNDTRIP from Philadelphia!! Then when you add in the free dining, we just couldn't pass it up. So we're going to brave the heat/crowds(?) Aug 28-Sept 4. This is only 3 months after our most recent trip - LOL!

We would totally do it! (I know, I'm such an enabler, lol)

Like a pp said, you can work around the heat. And September is not that busy since school is back in session most places. I say go, wear light clothes, bring your mister fan, and have a great time. :)

Sorry... :(...it was only out of DTW. So you are going in Sept...are you afraid of the heat??

Oh, well. Thanks. I have been searching for cheaper airfare. Currently, it is about $1500 for all 5 of us.

Our first trip was August 21 - 28, 2006. We stayed at Pop. It was very hot (and I live in the south). I swore that I would never return unless it was winter (or Florida's equivalent). The heat in Florida is kind of like childbirth, you forget the misery and pain. :rotfl: As another poster stated, there are plenty of opportunities to get an a/c break OR return to your room for a nap during the hottest part of the day OR take a swim.

Oh... I also swore that I would never return unless we stayed in a larger room. Well, you know the old adage "Never say never". We are returning to the Florida heat and again staying at Pop. :upsidedow I just can't turn down a great deal, and that airfare sounds like a great deal. ;)

We've went every year in Sept. except one. We decided to go in July because we just couldn't wait until Sept. That is one month that I have completely swore off!! Sure it's hot in Sept. but heat AND crowds....definately wasn't that magical. I've been three times in December and it's been crowded whatever week we chose the crowds were tolerable though because it wasn't hot...but the problem was...it was too cold. All three years it has been too cold to swim or anything so the kids didn't like it.

We did Disney last year end of August and chose Vero Beach for the holiday. We stayed by the pool the whole time, it was VERY VERY HOT and we were by the ocean with slight breeze. Evening was very very warm as well.

If you decide to go, just stay 2 hours in the mornings at the parks and head to hotel for swimming until later in the day.

That should make it a little more bearable. It will be very hot for the 4 year olds I think, but maybe even more for you.

When you pay that much to get into the parks, you really want to take advantage of it, but sometimes the rest by the pool in the afternoon is a better idea.

Get the mister they sell at Disney, that might make the heat more bearable.

I'm not sure that I would choose the very very hot/humid time because park touring will be tough. But, maybe you could actually plan a lot of swimming time and it may not be much of an issue.

But, it will be hot.

Hi again! ;) I just want to agree with pp. With crowd levels down, you can do so much even with taking a rest in the middle of the day. We really rode everything we wanted to with a very short wait and my daughter even got to go on her favorite Fantasyland rides several times!! I think the savings would be enough incentive for me to go in a hotter time of year. :thumbsup2

We've gone in September, May, and July.

I find September to be the least crowded and while it's hot, it's not unbearable.

Oh, you said the last week of September? You will be missing most of the free dining crowd. It's ends on the 22nd this year.
I say go for it!

Oh, By the way. We've done free dining the last 2 years in September, and we are going again this year. The crowds are NOTHING like July.
And like someone else mentioned, stay away from the EMH parks and you will be fine.

We went Sept. 9-16 last year and it was the best trip we've ever done. Crowds were non existent and the heat, while certainly there, were not unbearable. We went early, did just about everything before lunch, had a bite and headed back to the hotel for swimming the rest of the day. Headed back to the parks for dinner and evening activities.

When we came back, I knew that we'd never have a better vacation. We walked on every single ride, including Soarin' without waits. We were there for free dining and the most crowding I saw were in the restaurants.

Of course, our school decided that they don't want to do construction every year :dance3: so we have to start just after Labor Day this year. So we're going Aug 17-26. I expect it to be hotter than last year, but again, we'll do early mornings in the park, lunch then back to the pool.

If you can get airfare for 5 people for $600, I'd grab it and stop worrying about the heat. You'll manage with a bit of advance planning. And I don't think end of September will be so unbearable.

yes, it is hot but you can do it really. Also w/free dining all the kids will eat for free as well as big meals for both of you and that means your hotel will seem like it cost that must less!

If I can take the heat, surely you can too. Your kids will love you for it!
also 4 years old at Disney is my all time favorite age to take kids for a trip.

Check out POR , the rooms sleep 5 and it would be such a relaxing place to be on your off park days or down time.

so yeah, I'll be an enabler too.

We went the last week of Sept (for free dining). Crowds werent too bad, but the heat and humidity were. I can handle heat, but hate humidity. To top it off, the love bugs were everywhere too. Also keep in mind that Sept is peak hurricane season. We got lucky last year, but Im more concerned about this year.
