Help! Not carrying bags for the first time. What do minimalists do with their phone and no pockets?

I wear kohls womens cargo shorts that they don't appear to make any more. I save my last two pair for Disney trips only.
I also have bike shorts with deep pockets. Phone on one side, chapstick, money, and sunblock stick on the other. Just don't let anyone take your picture loaded down like that!

I have twelve or so pair of golf shorts for everyday use. Then I have three pair of cargo shorts that are in my Disney drawer that only come out for Disney trips. All of them have a phone slip on each leg along with two pockets besides the normal four. My wife gets to hand me her phone (I do all the planning on mine). Because of the way we tour, we never have any need for cash in the parks. We are only at a park for less than 4 hours and use our magic bands for any purchases. In all our trips, there was only once that the system was down and the CM's at the restaurant we were eating out knew how to handle that lunch bill. We don't need to carry our insurance cards as we have both front and back pictures on our phones. I really encourage everyone to do that as it is so simple.

A few ideas for you:
  • RooSport makes little running pouches that you can tuck into your waistband and they stay put with magnets. It's just the right size for a cell phone and a few small objects, like credit cards or cash. These are nice if you want something that doesn't go all the way around your body.
  • There are lots of running skirts out there for people of all sizes that include built-in "bike" shorts underneath. I find these to be super cool and comfortable in the parks, and they look cute too. The large thigh pockets under the skirt are built to be big enough for a phone. I've found nice ones for less money at discount stores like Nordstrom Rack and Marshalls.
  • You could take turns being the minimalist. When my husband was growing up, his family had "the blue bag." It was a tote bag his mom had sewn, and whatever they were taking to the parks that day went in the bag, such as some snacks, sunscreen, wallets, etc. Throughout the day, one person at a time was in charge of the blue bag. That way everybody shared the load, and for a good part of the day you'd get to be free of carrying anything.
  • When worse comes to worst, I have been known to stick my phone in my running bra. I have my phone in a case that holds three cards: my ID, my credit card, and my transit pass. It can also hold cash. Works great and that and a Chapstick are usually all I need.
I also wanted to add that you mentioned this is a wish trip. Sending you and your family all the good vibes and hugs and care and hope that it's a time of joy and laughter for your family! Best wishes to you all!

Why must you wear shorts with no pockets?
I carry a small Camelbak so I can continually re-hydrate. Those have a pocket in them for small items that would totally do the trick.

Unfortunately that's not an option for some of us.
I've tried on probably two dozen different styles of shorts that actually have pockets and none fit me properly. Too short, too flowy, too tight in the leg, too tight overall, too loose overall.
I resorted to cargo shorts made for men. By looking for ones that had some elastic in the waist, I now have great pocket shorts. Another idea is that a lot of biker shorts now come with pockets and you should be able to find those that fit you as there are so many on the market now. But most of the time lately I admit to resorting to a small cross body, a fanny pack, or a small string backpack. Some water bottle carriers now have a pocket for your phone and space for an ID, too. I just bought one of those but I haven’t tried it yet.

Our youngest is now old enough that we won’t need any bags or strollers yay!
My summer shorts don’t have pockets and in case I’m not near my husband, I need something to carry my phone. The only things I need to carry are my phone and a chapstick.
What does everyone use? I have a lulu crossbody satchel but don’t even want that on me in the august heat.
What does everyone use that’s the most minimal? My husband can carry my chapstick if needed.
I wear a pair of cargo shorts with a button or zipper close pocket. Works great for a phone and whatever else you need to hold on to. My DD wears her phone in a waterproof case on a lanyard around her neck

I use a wristband for my phone when I travel, and it's really helpful because I won't lose my phone since I'm wearing it around my wrist. If you needed to carry a credit card or something, you can get those holders that attach to the back of the phone. But I really do love it. My phone is always out and ready for a quick picture. Most of the time I forget that I am even wearing it. Good luck in your search and enjoy your new-found freedom! I hope this link goes through, I have never attached a link before that I can remember...

Thank you! This is exactly what I’m looking for so I don’t have to open my bag every time. Thank you!

Those are the shorts I have other than Jean shorts which I won’t do in August at Disney. I would rather spend on a new bag/wristlet than multiple new pairs of shorts

I'm glad you think this might work! There are other probably cuter styles available on Amazon, but these have worked great for me. I was confused how they work at first, but you take your phone cover off, put the little tab with the ring on the back of the phone with the ring coming out of where the charging hole goes, then put the cover back on. Then you connect that little ring with the wrist band. You can indeed charge the phone without taking the cover off and removing anything.

I was on a trip with my nephew and when out and about my nephew just would hold his phone. Sure enough, he put his phone down for a minute in a taxi in Italy and then left the cab without his phone. We luckily were able to track down the taxi and the phone, but wearing this wrist band would have prevented that. And it's also good for preventing theft since your phone is attached to you.

Plus, I don't have to say, we are always on our phones at Disney checking ride times etc. and your phone is always at the ready.

Good luck!

Look on Amazon for a phone case that comes with a lanyard. You can wear it around your neck. Even look for a case with a slot to put some cards in it just in case. As for the chapstick.... Well you'll need a crossbody or small purse thing. If you have to do that then might as well forget about the case.

I’m going to my child’s make a wish at theme parks in August. I don’t want to sweat and I also don’t want to go through bag check.

I don't have any advice about bags but I'm wondering if you've ever been to Florida in August? You will definitely sweat, within 5 minutes of walking out the door in the morning you are going to feel like a swamp monster. Nothing you do with bags or clothes will stop it!

Also, bag check isn't really that big of a thing anymore. They only check your bag if they flag something when you are going through the metal dectors. A small bag or fanny pack with your phone in it is almost certainly not going to require a bag check.

Enjoy your trip!

Also, for lip balm they sell insulated holders that have a keychain attachment, if that's something you're interested in. It's supposed to prevent it from melting on hot days. Maybe you can attach it to the lanyard holding your phone. They have a basic size for standard size lip balms, as well as one for a larger size lip balm or lipstick.

Here is one brand:

I've been going minimal for a long time now. My husband wears cargo pants and carries the few things I need. When I am not with him, I use a 3 prong waist pack which is small enough not to bother me on rides. I hate carrying a lot of things with me and have avoided it like the plague. (we don't have young kids anymore which makes a big difference.

I use a Flipbelt. Fits my phone, cash, ID, chapstick, and credit card.

I prefer the version with a zipper.
Oooooh I just looked up what this is! I am very intrigued.

Have you tried the classic style? Wondering how that works with all the getting in and out of rides.

I can see how I’d feel more secure with the zipper version hmm 🤔

Thanks!!

I really like this option! Thanks for sharing

I have a wallet phone case with a strap. It wasn't hot at all since the strap is smaller. Got it from Amazon1720710621351.png

Biker shorts with the pockets. Cheap to buy a few pairs, easy to wear in the heat and the pockets are just the right size to hold a phone securely
