Hello all! We are getting ready to take our daughter on her first trip to Disney World. On a recent trip to the Zoo it came to our notice that DD seems to be quite nervous and scared when the animals get close. (She won't leave our Arms if you walk into a petting zoo area.) I am a tad worried what this will mean for our Safari ride and would like to prep her for how close animals can get and how its okay if they get close.

After looking through our photos from the Safari I have found that we don't have good photos that show this. I was wondering if anyone has photos and or Videos that show the animals up close with the Safari vehicle so that I could show them to DD and talk with her about how its okay I would be greatful.

Thanks in advance for any who can help!

Have you tried looking it up on Youtube? My girls love watching all of the rides they want to do and to see if there are any they do not want to ride. You can search something specific like "up close animals on Animal Kingdom safari ride". We rode once and had a giraffe cross the rode in front of our vehicle and then walk alongside us about 6ft from us. You could also try to Google image search it.

BigFatPanda has some of the best WDW videos, my DS spends hours watching them. Great place to prepare kids for a trip and attractions - his voice is so calming. :goodvibes

Some pictures will make the animals appear closer then they really are. The drivers don't allow the animals to get too close. They will move on.

The more dangerous animals; elephants, cats, hippos etc can't get near - they have pits and other barriers etc in place.

What you find coming close is mostly the cattle, deer, giraffes. Often they will wander right on the road and they have to stop the truck to let them pass. We have had giraffes put their heads right up to us. But these are not common and none of the animals except for the giraffes are tall enough to be equal with the guests. Here are some of my photos, no zoom, with the truck in it so you can see. Needless to say we were all giddy!

Here is the giraffe picture. First shot you see where the giraffe is at the tree in relation to the truck (can see truck roof) and then giraffe came over to say hello. I can't believe my DH was on that side, I tossed him camera and was hopeful he got anything as he does not take pictures, but he did okay. It looked down the length of the truck and walked on.

This is perfect and exactly what I was hoping for thank you! While I would be thrilled with such a close encounter DD will need some preparation beforehand.

And what GREAT photos!
