pirate:Hi all, I'm looking for a clean, safe place to stay after driving through Atlanta. We'll be driving all night and I want to plan my "stopping point", but I don't know the area very well. This is my first vacation trip with my family, so I'm obssessed with a safe place to stay. Any suggestions are appreciated!

We stayed at a Hampton Inn in Macon GA... right off 475...which was an exit off of 75 and then hooked up right back onto 75 a few miles down the road.

It was very clean, free wifi, the hotel room was really nice and they served hot breakfast in the morning.

We had a king bed room with a pull out sofa bed.

From there to Disney (if that is where you are going) is about 5.5 hours away.

The hotel is located on Eisenhower Drive (there is another Hampton Inn in Macon).

There are plenty of excellent choices, depending greatly on how far south you want to go before stopping.

The first place I'd stop south of Atlanta is Locust Grove, exit 212, where there is a nice and fairly new Comfort Suites, and another Comfort Suites in Byron, exit 149, just south of Macon. We stayed in the Byron location a few months ago, so I can personally recommend it.

Valdosta has a nice Country Inn & Suites, and yet another Comfort Suites, among most of the major chains. I've stayed in both within the past year, and either would be a fine choice. If you want to make it as far south as Florida, try the also fairly new Fairfield Inn at Lake City.

Everything I've mentioned serves a complimentary breakfast.

We like the Hampton Inn in Warner Robins, VERY clean and in a nice area!

However, it is very close to Atlanta, south of it but still close, and not so close to Gainesville.

You can never go wrong with any of the Marriott properties as well....

I'll second the Byron GA Comfort Inn & Suites. We stayed at the Comfort Inn & Suites in Byron, GA on our trip this summer. Just past Macon, GA. Nice hotel (new or newly renovated in the last year and a half). Good hot breakfast, clean rooms, nice pool. Close to plenty of dining options.
