Help-need advice on renting a vacation home near Disney

I have done a search on Travelocity and come up with 4 names that are in the Kissimmee area that fit our price range. They are Advanatge Vacation Homes,American Vacation Homes,Flordia's Choice Vacation Home Rentals and Flordia Magic Vacation. Would love to hear from anyone who has dealt with these-bad or good. Looking for something close to Disney that is safe and clean.

Sorry I don't have any experience of these but by the sounds of the names they are all management companies which means you may not know exactly which home you will be booked in. Another option would be to rent directly from an owner so that you know exactly the home and all it's facilities (including the little extras owners add)

If you want owner-verified, try orlandovillas dot com, there are also two other sites run by the same people/company who also verify owners.

cyberrentals dot com

Try a google search such as "disney villas for rent by owner" and you'll come up with lots. It is mind boggling how many choices there are.

You should have a list of must-haves and wants ready to help you weed out the ones that don't fit.

Where is the best place to find owners advertising their villa's?

As A&CsMom suggest try VRBO but unless you know the resort you want it will take quite a bit of time going through it. Another few to try are:

Always have a look at the guest comments to see what people say about the places and ask when the photos were taken to make sure they are not years old If you are unsure you can always verify ownership with their management company - owners should have no problem providing you with their details if you ask.

Before we bought our timeshare we used villadirect.com many times and they were great. You can choose the exact home you want with lots of photos and virtual tours too. The homes we rented were exactly as shown on their website. This was about 3 yrs ago when we last used them and many people on the Dis have said to stay away and that it's a poorly managed company. Sorry that it's no help but I can tell you what neighborhoods to stay in that are close to WDW:

Windsor Hills (very popular and new)
Windsor Palms
Formosa Gardens
Indian Creek
Rolling Hills
Emerald Island
Oak Island Cove (slightly older)

My neighbor has used American Homes many times and loves that you don't have to stop at an office to get a key. It's at the house in a lock box which is convenient after a long flight or drive. In non-peak times she has negotiated prices to her liking esp. the pool heat portion.

Many of their homes are a bit further away for my taste, down on Rt. 27, which just adds more time to our commute.

We used vacationbythemouse.com. Heather and Shane are very easy to work with. My sister used them when they went to the Destin area and were happy too. You will stay in the house you see in the picture.

We have rented several places, like westgate villas, windsor palms and no have rented a house for february 2008 at windsor hills.

Our condo at windsor palms was great, close to the pool and on 3rd floor. We could not get a good deal at windsor palms so we got one a house at windsor hills which looks faboulos. You can e-mail if you like and I can give you the place we styaed at
