The freezer is inthe 40s and the refrige is in the 60 degrees. I think I spotted an oily green substance on the floor (freon/oil?).

IT is about 13 years old and we live 30 + miles from a repair person.. Should I buy a new one or fix the old one?

If I buy a new one what features do I want/ What brand?

Thanks Tigger

Good luck with getting a new fridge/freezer :)

Tigger1,

This is exactly the problem we had last week with our fridge. Our fridge is about 15 years old. The problem turned out to be that the self-defrost stopped working and ice had built up inside. I was afraid that it would cost more to fix than the fridge was worth but it wasn't too bad. Good luck.

Frost-free or not-frost free?...that is the question!!

S'cuse the pun but that was the question for us a while back! Well, to be honest, nearly all our appliances are Bosch and, touch wood, we have had no problems so far. We replaced our old Candy (Italian) frost-free fridge freezer with a bog standard Bosch one and it works fine - need de-frosting about once a year if that. We also have a brand spanking new all-sining, all-dancing Samsung with crushed/cubed ice & water dispenser which is fantastic - what did we do without it I wonder?

No idea what the 'best' brand is in the US but, I have to say, Bosch is the one for me!
