HELP! My husband broke his ankle and we leave in 2 weeks!

I have never had it happen (yet) but I recall someone on here had her daughter do that. A wheelchair is what made it all worthwhile. How bad of a break? Surgery needed? What type of cast is he in? I am so sorry to hear it.

He will be fine and your trip will still be great. Lat yr before our trip to Disney I had to have knee surgery. It was two weeks before we left. Disney has wheel chairs that we were able to use. You use the exit line on attractions so he won't have to stand in the lines.

I feel for you, my DH just broke his foot though we are a bit farther out from our trip. i got a lot of great suggestions on this board including renting a ECV at the park each day. there is a disabilities board with lots of great suggestions. hope it all works out!

Even though it may have seemed like that to you, most attractions don't have a handicapped entrance and you do enter thru the regular line. Lines that are wheelchair accessible are called "Mainstream Lines" and people with wheelchairs/ECVs wait in those lines with everyone else.
AK and the Studio were built with all Mainstream Lines. Those kinds of lines didn't exist when MK and Epcot were built, but they added Mainstream lines as much as possible when attractions were added or renovated. There were some that were not able to be made accessible, so they still need a handicapped entrance. That doesn't necessarily mean a shorter wait; on our last 3 visits to Small World, we waited for 25 minutes when people in the 'regular line' were getting on as fast as they could walk and some boats were not even filled.

Awww im sorry to hear that! But its Disney World, so im sure you will still have an awesome time! I know someone that broke their leg a few weeks before their Disney vacation. They used a wheelchair and everything turned out pretty good. Well anyway, have a nice trip. And tell your DH to get better soon.

I'm so sorry, and I'm right there with you, although not as bad. I broke my hand 2 weeks ago, and will need to have surgery. I go back this week to see when, but I'm pretty sure I'll be waiting until after we get back. We're still a month out though. Good luck!!! Does he have to have sugery? I'm sure an ankle is much worse than a hand, but if it helps at all, my hand is feeling much better, so maybe the 2 weeks will help out. You can always get a wheelchair- I know probably your not first choice, but you would get to skip most of the lines Just trying to look at the bright side-good luck!!

Hmmm... when we went with my Grandma (she was in a wheelchair) I don't remember waiting in the lines. I remember using the exits and usually just waiting for the next boat or vehicle. That was about 5 years ago, so maybe they've changed it??? Either way good luck!!!

I sympathize with you. Our first trip to WDW my husband was coming down our stairs in socks and missed a step and slid down the stairs and broke 4 ribs 4 days before we left and then our second trip my daughter was walking in the woods with friends and a tree branch snapped back and hit her right in the eye causing a severe cornea tear 5 days before were to leave. Both times we managed but it was not a pleasant trip. We haven’t been back as a family since (Dec. 06). We go in Oct. with another family and I’m praying and keeping my fingers crossed that nothing happens this time. I don’t think my husband will attempt again if something happens. I had to beg him this time to try.

Yikes! Wrap everyone in bubble wrap and don't let them off the sofa or out of the house until your trip! Here's some pixie dust for a healthy trip this October!

I always worry about someone getting sick or hurt right before vacation. We are a little under 12 weeks from our trip so I'm starting to get in that zone where I worry more. We usually go to WDW in October and we are on an every-other-year schedule and last year was our off year. Last September my DH was in a bicycling accident and had to have surgery on his arm. I kept thinking thank goodness it happened during an "off" Disney year. Yeah, I know where my priorities are .....

To the OP - - I hope your DH is feeling better soon and your trip turns out OK despite his injury.

Just thought I would offer any advice as you let us know how severe the break is. I work in orthpedics (as a physical therapist) & if he needs to have anything pinned (which would require - ugh - surgery) then your trip will have to be slowed down (via a w/c). My husband was involved in a terrible plane accident last fall & we were in the midst of planning a trip to DW, selling/buying a house, then moving across country. So, look on the bright side - he isnt hospitalized (right?) & you will get to go!!!

Hope the injury was minimal & you are still super excited about your trip!

Firstly, I am so sorry. Second, I would recommend rescheduling if possible. My mom also broke her ankle recently and its been horrible with the pain and all. Your husband will probably have fun..it is WDW but would have much more fun if he is healed. Good luck.
