Hi Karin....What a nice surprise, those are great gifts you & Tom received. I know, Jeff, Lily, Molly & Phillip are great. We saw them at our local mall in Dec at a DVC get-together at a DVC Doorway To Dreams store and I've spoken to Jeff a few times after that. They live about 15 minutes from us, so I hope soon we can get together with them again. Staying at the Poly is so exciting and not having to pay is even better. A great way to start the new year!

OFF is sprayed on you !! Well your clothes , that is what the professionals do !! The guy who did most of the "DeBugging " learned his trade in Afghanistan where he had lots of practise He also said to spray the outside of your suitcase and the dresser drawers before putting your clothes in them !!You check around the corners of the mattress and box springs where you will see tham or their dustSome of the Hotels I stayed in had covers that are not plastic but material and they enclose the bugs !!Also check around the frame of the bed . The investatation at work was horrendous and no staff member brought any home by using the OFF and just being careful !!We did all take home bug traps and NO one found any at home . I still check each hotel room but am no longer paronoid about it !!

How exciting - more PD!!

OFF will only keep them away from climbing on your luggage, but that is not even a guarantee ~ we keep our luggage off the floor, pack clothing in special zip lock bags and put those in the drawers, check the mattress, behind the headboard and drawers - take along a small flashlight for checking. Then we relax and enjoy!!

I could not believe they would let us choose where to stay - and then I just could not think. And when he offered the Poly I knew that was it. It is far too expensive in my mind and I would NOT shell out that money, but for 200$ a night - I think I can!
We are pretty happy about it now - went to the website first thing this morning to check if the ressie was still there!

OMG!!! Karin, just the other day I read about guests who had reserved a Royal Room being moved and offered deluxe resorts...I thought of you, but didn't think it would affect you because you'd not said anything....but The Polynesian is our home resort and it will always be the resort of my heart.

It is in need of a refurb, but not awful...oh and may I suggest a room request? Figi Marina side ~ many rooms have a view of the lagoon, CR and the Electrical Water Pageant - not straight, but still nice! Tokelau has the largest rooms (and Tahiti and Rapa Nui, but Tokelau has nicer views from most rooms). We could see the end of the lagoon, ferries going back and forth, the monorail gliding out of CR, the top of WL...all in a GV room. AND when you walk down the hall from your Toakelau beach end rooms the Castle is looking right back at you from the glass door to the deck, which leads to the beach.

I am SO EXCITED for you and Tom!!!! Congrats!!

When I saw the number I was "pretty sure" it must be about the Royal Rooms. We would have moved in the day AFTER they opened them and it looks like they are running way behind - my luck!
Guess what - we had a Pirate Room booked when they first opened and while we got the room, many of the features were not there - no barrels, the crate like dresser, the table with the compass dial and most of the frames were still sticky from the paint.
I'd rather stay at the Poly than a sticky room again!
I have made a note of your recommendations for rooms - I will try and call them to make that request sometime next week - I need to put in a room request for BLT as well. Thank you for your ideas - I would not have known what to request!

You know, when he said the Contempory was not available I was immediately thinking which other resort would give us "some extra fun" as well. I was thinking of OKW for a split second, but they would have put us in a studio for the night and then there was WL - we haven't stayed there in ages and it is such a pretty resort - BUT to get to the MK at night (we'll be arriving late and only have one night) we'd have to use the boat or drive (we do not use the buses) and that ruled that one out, so there was either the Poly or the GF and since the GF is building DVC units I am sure we will stay there once they are finished and voila - the result is the Poly!

WOW! When we see eachother we'll be able to compare notes about the Poly! That is amazing. So happy for you. I've been hearing about people being upgraded that week from mods to deluxes. Does that mean its going to be crazy busy that week? Well, yes of course. So, so, so happy for you and Tom!

Didn't I just tell you that they would need to offer me a giant discount to stay at the Poly - well, it seems they read my posts!
But it made me to be staying at the same resort as you are - so we really can compare notes once we meet!
And as far as being busy - we will only return from our cruise on Thursday, so I hope the worst will be over!

We just fell in love with Jeff and his family! Jeff and Lily are the sweetest people and their kids are so sweet and well behaved! Unbelievable!
I wish we would live closer to you all so we could get together once in a while - unfortunately flights across the pond are not that cheap!
But NYC is on our list of places to revisit soon - so we will definitely contact you to get together soon.

You are right - Disney and our Disney friends have started off our year pretty well. And to stay at the Poly at the rate of a moderate is just the icing on the cake!

We have visited the Poly a few times and visited with some friends who have stayed there. I never in my wildest dreams would have thought of us staying there. Disney is just magical in "making" us stay there!

I was reading back a bit.... About the bedbug issue the babies are almost microscopic so it's very easy to pick them up and doesn't matter how dirty or clean you are. The bites look like tiny red raised marks. Also they leave blood spots on sheets and pillows.

My Mom's apartment building which is senior housing was infested with them. The landlord said there wasn't a problem until there was a huge story in the Milwaukee Journal about it. They had to come in and heat treat all the rooms. (which is the most effective way to kill them) It took them a good year to get rid of them. It is very low income there and people would bring in furniture from the outside repeating the bed bug cycle. Things like common bug sprays don't work on them.

It's like playing roulette. You hope it never happens to you but it may. I always unpack my luggage right away and wash my clothes. I never spray our room but I look for evidence around pictures, ceiling corners, behind bedboards, and under the bed covers.

If you really want your skin to crawl watch a show called "Infestations" I think it's on Animal Planet. We even have bed bugs in movie theaters now. So no where is really safe.

The only insecticide that is effective against bedbugs has been outlawed by the EPA. They don't carry any diseases or hurt you, but the creep factor is very high!

Hi Karin so glad to hear about your wonderful upgrade to the Poly. I love eating at Ohana and we have done the Luau twice. We enjoyed watching a movie on the beach there and the water pageant. We would love to be able to stay there some day! I am so happy for you and Tom!

I have to say, that is the ONE resort we have never stayed at that we would LOVE to- I think it has to do with it being one of the original resorts, and always wishing that one day we might be able to stay there- when we were young and broke and staying waaaaaay off property at the Orlando Vacation Resort (that no longer exists!) in Kissimmee. GOOD FOR YOU!!!!

We have had upgrades happen before, but only at the same resort. We are so happy with our upgrade!

You are right, the creep factor IS high - I looked them up on the internet and would not like to take to them home.
Guess we'll just look for them beforehand - better be safe than sorry.

I was kind of hoing for an update, but then was surprised when they actually offered it to us. And to stay at a Monorail resort is just awesome. It's going to be a heck of a trip!
While we love Ohana too, we have never been to the Luau. You need to tell me all about it when we next see you ..... hoping it will not take until 2013!

Abby, I would have never even thought about checking into Remy some more, especially since they still have the old menu online. But after seeing Brenda's photos and reading her review I really am for it all the way! Can't wait actually.
And you would LOVE a Disney cruise. It is so much fun and there is that wonderful Disney service 24/7!!!

We truly were more than just dusted with pixie dust! I cannot believe it all happened to us! But then - it has happened before .... I remember some very thoughtful gifts last summer as well.
Oh, poor you, being forced to stay at the Contemporary - I am sure you really suffered. It's a great resort, isn't it? We are going to stay there this summer, Club Level with a MK view! I still have to pinch myself to be sure it's for real.

We are pretty happy with our upgrade and could not believe the thoughtful gifts we received.

Our summer trip is coming together really nicely at the moment. Most of the hotels are booked and now, once I have finished planning our February trip I can start on the fine tuning.
