Help me Understand re Use Year/Booking Window

OK, we're in planning mode for our first DVC trip, which will likely be Fall 2012. Question is this: can you only book with the points that you have at the time of booking, or can you book with the points that you will have at the time of your trip?

To use a specific example, we're at BLT, so we can book at 11 months out. Our UY is December, though, so if we're booking our fall 2012 trip at the 11 month mark, we will not have received our year's points yet. Can we still book in anticipation of getting those points, since we'll have them at the time we actually take our trip?

Same question as to borrowing points -- do you have to wait until you've received your year's points to borrow from the next year, or is it based upon when you'd actually be taking the trip?

When booking a reservation, you look at which UY your reservation falls into, and those are the points you use. When you book is irrelevant as far as availability of points to make a reservation.

So to answer your question, you book reservations based on the points available when you make your trip.

Same answer regarding borrowing. If you need points from the following UY to make a reservation, you get them when you make that reservation.

You could have 0 points in your 2011 UY and make a 2012 UY reservation using 2012 and 2013 points.

log in to the DVC website and look at your account. all the points through at least 2013 are already there.

use year has nothing to do with booking a reservation.

if you are traveling late in your UY (in the fall for a dec UY for example), you will notice that if you have to cancel after your banking window closes on july 31, you risk losing your pts if you can't make quick adjustments...that is the issue with use year...

if you want to book an oct 2012 trip with a dec UY, that is in your 2011 UY (as you have said.) if you call in nov 2011 to book the reservation at your home resort, you can use current 2011 pts (even though your 2011 UY hasn't started yet), banked 2010 pts (if any) and borrowed 2013 pts (if you need them.)
