Hi we are going to buy dvc points but are torn between the BCV & the BWV, please tell me what you consider the best & the not so good points of each.

Also I am currently looking at resale but understand I could go on a waiting list with Disney, are there benefits to buying through Disney & not resale? will it take longer is it more expensive?

am I correct in thinking that DVC's bought from Disney never come with banked points.
sorry for all the questions but this is very new to me.:)
thankyou Julie

I don't have much to offer in answer to all of your questions, but -

It used to be the case (as I understood it) that you could buy only the current resorts direct from Disney i.e AKL and SSR at the moment. That may have changed, and it may be poosible to purchase the sold out resorts, but it may still be the case that these points are available only to existing owners who want to add on. Sorry, I don't know for sure.

Some of the benefits from buying direct from Disney are:
  • it's very easy,
  • it's very quick
  • it's possible to get finance as part of the deal
  • the closing costs are included in the price, so it's a straight no.of points x cost per point = the total cost.
  • you can choose the exact number of points you want (over the minumum) rather than waiting for a suitably sized contract to come up for resale

The main disadvantages are:
  • you'll pay more per point (although the total cost of the deal may not work out as more per point than a resale once you've accounted for closing costs, stripped points, etc)
  • you may be limited to the current resorts

Can't really help on the resale, however am not aware that disney have any bcv or bwv the last sales were for saratoga and then animal kingdom lodge i believe so you may be being offered a resale, disney doesn't come with banked points, however we felt quite safe buying from disney and arranging the finance was very easy. We bought at Vero Beach and have stayed there once, just because it is your home resort doesn't mean you are restricted to staying there, you just get the advantage of being able to book your rooms 11 months in advance instead of 7, that being said as long as you have some flexibility this shouldn't be a problem, our personal favourite is bwv we love the location and the style of the resort and the boardwalk itself, bcv has a great pool area but is right opposite bwv so location wise is very similar, we haven't regretted buying dvc and love the holidays we get to take with our membership, good luck with your choices.
