Help me sell this idea to DH

So I told DH we're going somewhere warm next Christmas as long as my debts are paid out. He's all for it and we both love Oahu, so that's where

There are two places on Oahu we can go to over the Christmas holidays - Aulani or Kahala. Both are upper-end resorts and once all things shake out, the cost is pretty much the same.

Pro's for Kahala - they have a dolphin experience (you can purchase even if you don't stay there)
It's on the other side of Diamond Head, so still private
Room is less expensive than Aulani (unless we rent points, in which case it'll be slightly more)

Pro's for Aulani - it's Disney!
Con - I'm worried about renting points as I'm Canadian and I'd need the money by May. I probably won't have it til August/September. Will that be too late to book?

So if I present either one of these options to DH, I need to have my reasons ready, otherwise he'd suggest staying at some hotel three blocks away from the beach.

Maybe you could see him on a split stay-something like 1 or 2 nights at Aulani to "see if you like it" and then the rest of the time at Kahala. That way you are only having to commit a small bit of the cash in May and that gives you an incentive to keep paying down your debt.

Sounds like money is a priority for DH, but what else? Seclusion, activities, touristy business and parting, beach, ocean, mountains, surfing, snorkeling?

To book Aulani on points over Christmas, you should have an owner lined up pretty much yesterday. It's a very popular time and many owners use their 11-month windows to be able to book. Not sure how much of each room category there will be left in May, though if you're open to one bedrooms and various views, you might have a shot.
