Hi everyone,

I am headed to orlando in July for leakycon and time at universal and WDW. :thumbsup2 I'm going to be on site for my first two nights at universal (RPR) with no car  then off site with car for 3 nights and 3 nights onsite no car at WDW (AKL). :cutie:

I need help planning out my meals. I know there are experts out there so come on over and share your thoughts. I promise to share pictures and reviews after I come home. :flower3:

My eating habits: vegetarian (no meat, chicken stock, fish stock, gelatin etc.), don't like eggs on own but in cakes ok ;), cheese is good but have to eat only small amounts or I get a headache :headache:
I LOVE LOVE LOVE: fruit especially bananas, most vegetables even onions and mushrooms, bread, rice, pasta, beans, tofu, cereal, and Greek yogurt

so help me out...see my plan below and make your suggestions

here are the snacks/food I plan to pack in my suitcase to bring to Orlando
popcorn::

granola bars, Larabars, crackers, fruit leathers, nuts, gum, starburst jelly beans :thumbsup2, 3 boxes of sample cereals, probably a couple bananas and apples, maybe baby carrots and celery

I will also bring my trusty refillable water bottle

after I pick up my car..I will plan a quick trip to the store to pick up some diet cokes and such. My off site hotel will offer free breakfast so I plan to eat there each morning and nab an extra apple or banana for later.

For your time at WDW, I don't think you'll have any trouble finding great options anywhere you go. I think most of the restaurants now have veggie options on the menu (or will work with you if you ask).

One of our favorites was the seared tofu (I think with mango, veggies, rice) at Sci-Fi Dine In at Hollywood Studios - it was delicious! Boma at AKL is also one of our favorite restaurants overall and it has lots of great and unique vegetarian soups and salad - it's a buffet, so you could take a look to see what might look good to you before you dine. Cali Grill at the Contemporary is on the pricey side, but there are lots of options, but ask for the "Vegetarian Unplugged" if you go - not on the menu, but the chef will put together something amazing for you (usually a few different small plates).

Anyway, just a few of our favorites (so far) - can't wait to hear suggestions from others. Enjoy your trip!

Is Sci-fi the one where you get to sit in the car? That sounds fun to me. Wonder if you can do that solo and not get death stares from other diners. Boma is on my radar...I keep hearing great things about it. Potatoes with Afritude...I could handle that.

I'm a vegetarian just finishing my wdw trip. We had great dinners at California grill, jiko and la hacienda de San angel. The latter two have separate vegetarian menus you can ask for. Decent lunches at tortuga tavern, cosmic rays and backlot express. Pizzafari was only ok. The only salad listed is Cesar but they have non Cesar dressing for it if you ask so it's vegetarian

California Grill and Flying Fish have great vegetarian options. Tusker House at AK is delicious. We have never tried Boma for dinner, but have heard great things about it and will be trying it in July. Wolfgang Puck Cafe in downtown disney is good. We are trying La Hacienda in Epcot for the first time as well.

For counter service, I like Sunshine Seasons and the Tangeriene Cafe in Epcot. Tortuga Tavern in MK has great veggie tacos.

Enjoy....you will find that most places have at least one veggie offering on their menu.

The Lighthouse sandwich at Columbia Harbor House in MK is really yummy. It's hummus, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, etc. on multigrain bread. It's delicious and inexpensive!

One suggestion...Bubba Gumps at City Walk has got the best veggie burger ever! I got addicted to these during our last trip.:worship:

I looked up the hacienda's menu and it looks good. I love Mexican food. Jiko looks good to....That's the one with the breads and dipping sauces for app. I'm drooling thinking about it.

thanks for all the suggestions! :thumbsup2

Wolfgang Puck....yummo popcorn:: Glad you mentioned that one. Sunshine Seasons is a good choice too. I ate while waiting on a Soarin fastpass. I liked the free refills. :drinking1

OMG....this made me soooooo happy. I'm totally getting this sandwich. If it comes with salt and vinegar potato chips I may eat there everyday.:laughing::cloud9:

Thanks for the universal tip....need some of those. ;) I love me a veggie burger every now and again.

keep those tips coming peeps...anyone have photos to share

how about some snack ideas that could replace lunch...I've done the pretzel with frozen lemonade before and that was ok.

How about universal/Islands of adventure stuff? 3 broomsticks any good? Mythos? Pizza?

I'll have a car part time too so if there is anything off site but close worth trying that'll work too.

How bout House of Blues? I can get one of those restaurant.com cards for there.

thanks thanks thanks for all the help. I'm sooooooo excited about this trip.

Oooh, I'm going to LeakyCon, too :) I'm so unbelievably excited!

I went to Infinitus last year, and stayed in RPR, we didn't have much money, and din't want to go far from the hotel to find food during the Con, so we ate as much as we could at the buffet breakfast, which lasted us for breakfast and lunch, and grabbed as much fruit/cereals/rolls as we could to have as snacks during the day. If I remember correctly I had a vegetarian pizza one night at one of the hotel restaraunts, and Jake's Bar by the pool has really nice food, including salads and vergetarian soups. Also, AMAZING cocktails :)

In City Walk there is also a Moe's Southwestern restaurant. We ate there a lot since I'm the only one in the family that is vegetarian.

Oh, and the veggie burger at Bubba Gumps is actually a mushroom burger, but regardless, still the best veggie burger I've EVER eaten and I'm not even a big mushroom person.

Inside the parks (Universal, IOA), I ate a lot of veggie pizzas. There are also fruit stands around that had really good ripe fruit. Seems like Richter's Burger joint had a veggie burger, but it was your common burger, nothing to write home about.

fruit yummy....Moe's sounds good too. Nachos crunchy yumminess.

we just got back from WDW stayed at the BWV for 8 days. My DH is a veg. We go to Disney 2-3 times a year and have never had a problem with finding options for him.

Our favorite place to eat is the California Grill. Yes, it's pricey but soooo worth it. The tofu dish at Sci-Fi is great as is the one at The Brown Derby. There are always pasta dishes available at Mama Melrose, Tony's Town Square, as well as others. Ohana has salad, noodles, broccoli, and bread pudding that are excellent. They also made my husband a tofu dish there. Many places that are quick service will have veggie burgers. Cosmic Ray's has a pretty decent veggie wrap. Two days in a row we ate at Nine Dragons for lunch. They have a super delish tofu veggie stir fry, veggie fried rice, and veggie spring rolls. Japan has options too. Veggie rolls and such. I could go on and on.

thanks for all the great tips! Pasta sounds yummy..veggie stir fry popcorn::

Yum yum yum

I would really make a dinner ADR at Boma and/or Jiko. They both have excellent vegetarian options, and since you're staying at that resort it makes them even easier to get to.

I second Moe's. I forgot there was one at Universal, but I always go to the one at home, and like the one in Universal even better. They have an awesome salsa bar included with every meal.
