We are having some friends over this evening for dinner (Chinese take-out) and we will be enjoying some wine (ok - alot) during the course of the evening.

I'm looking for some suggestions on something new to try this evening. Anyone have any good recommendations?

2003 J Lohr Riverstone Chardonay, about $10-12 a bottle and very good if you like an oaky chard..

2005 Babish Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, $14-16 a bottle a little lighter and crisper.

2003 Kosta Browne Sonoma Pinot Noir, about $25 a bottle, a great middle of the road red.

Any of thse would work with Chinese, and keep your budget at a reasonable level. Have fun!

For a nice white which is crisp and dry try a Pinot Grigio from Italy :) Not sure how much a bottle would be in the US but here it would be about $12 ie £6.99 so guessing about the same considering things, although wine is cheaper in the US it is an import.

Claire ;)

For a white.. try Paringa it is a Chardonnay/semillon/savignon blanc blend..

Red try The Lucky Country - Genache/Shiraz/Mourvedre blend..

Neither wine will overpower the chinese food..

WMAlex, I think you quoted me there since I say that ALL the time! :rotfl2: :rotfl: :teeth:

I like a red wine but not too dry,not too sweet, Can anyone recommend one?

Thanks

I love Pinot Grigio it's so good!!!! :drinking1 As for red wine "Kendall Jackson"
the best.

Austrailian Green Point Shiraz...... Mmmmmmmmm.... don't know how well it'd go with Chinese - but for me it goes with anything!

Pinot Noir's are middle of the road for reds.

Beaujolais is a good fruity red that goes well with most anything, and is a good wine for people who don't normally drink wine. It runs in about the $10 range for most brands. It can even be served chilled, unlike most red wines.

I would give a suggestion, but who knows if anyone is pregnant! :rotfl2:

Coppola Claret - most liquor stores, as well as Trader Joe's, carries it. It's mahhhhhh-velous. Absolutely lovely.

And yes, it's Francis Ford Coppola's Vineyard : http://www.niebaum-coppola.com/site.php

It's super-reasonably priced. I think I might go get some tonight **toast*** :drinking:

hey great thread to remind me -
I have all these bottles of wine - and I need to stop for a bottle opener tonight ;)

Maybe I will look for some Beaujolais too!

Not that I can say it or remember it -

Anything that comes in a big jug or a box with a spout works for me :rotfl2: :rotfl2: ...I'm very low maintainence :rotfl2:

Gewurztraminer is one wine that is a good pairing with Chinese food, in my opinion. Especially the spicier dishes!
