Help me out... does this sound like a good plan?

I've mentioned some of this in a few posts, so forgive me for repeating... So, we wanted to go in Dec, I managed to get a PIN that I hope we can use. DH is talking to MIL and she says that they'd want to join us, but won't be able to go until Jan. Since Jan promos/rates and all that won't be out until later, plus, we don't know if we can REALLY count on them going or not, this is what we're thinking:

Go ahead and book w/ pin a vacation in December. If, as the fall goes on, it looks like the ILs still want to go in Jan, and the rates seem to allow it, then we can change the stay to Jan. I believe the cancellation policy allows no penalty up until 5 days prior to trip, correct? And if by chance, we get a really great PIN or promotion comes along for Jan, we should be able to take advantage of that, correct? I'd just like to be able to go ahead and make ADRs, and get the tickets "bought" before the price increase in August as well. DH even said, that he may decide it's worth paying an extra few hundred dollars to pay OOP for meals and stay at SOG in Jan if no good deals come up. But I suppose all of this banks on being able to change and cancel at a later date w/out penalty. I think I'm understanding this correctly?? Also, if a better promo comes out between now and Dec, we can still change and apply that to a Dec booking, possibly getting a refund, right?

Thanks guys!! I've been trying on my Disney planning hat on this week... looks like I'll be here quite a bit over the months!! Always glad to spend those months with all the great folks on the Disboards!!

I think that sounds like a great plan. That way you have plans in place in case the ILs bail on you. We are trying to decide if we should go in September or wait til January, or do both, LoL. I am just worried it'll be stiffling hot in September. Although I am from Texas where it is hot 11.5 months out of the year, I still don't want to be walking all over DW in 100 degree heat.

Thanks-- I just wanted to make sure there weren't any major holes or problems with that idea before I started making ressies!!

And we too, are Texans and went in Sept of 08. As Texans, the weather was great-- others in the world might have thought it was "hot" but it really was pretty pleasant, especially when you're like us, and used to heat. I actually needed a long sleeve T-shirt a couple evenings because I was chilly!
