Here's the story. I've always loved birds and have had birds most of my life. (and dogs which I have 4 of right now) When DH Matthew met me I had one cockatiel that unfortunately died not too long after we met.
Matthew isn't too keen on birds and had no interest in them. I finally talked (guilted) him into buying me a baby cockatiel back in February. I named her Pixel since she is a pearl cockatiel and her markings look like a computer graphic that you have zoomed in really close on.
Then I had the idea to get my mom a canary for her birthday in March. She really liked him but recently she has gotten sick and can't care for him so he (Sunny) has moved next to my cockatiel.
Fast forward to Sunday. My mom wanted to buy my niece (12yrs old) a pet because she has been down in the dumps and she knows how much she loves animals. She decided to get her a parakeet. We took mom out shopping and picked out a tiny green male parakeet. Since my niece lives in another town we figured we would keep it for a week and bring it to her next weekend. I guess you can see where this is headed.
By Monday I was attached to this little bugger. Tuesday I called my mom and said to her "Don't you think Katie would much rather have a blue parakeet?" She agreed and asked what we would do with this one. I told her no problem, I would keep him
I told her I would stop by the PetSmart by my work and pick up a blue one. Bad idea.
This PetSmart had parakeets of every color possible it seemed. I couldn't make up my mind. I ended up coming home with a periwinkle colored one and a pale lavendar one. Surely one of these parakeets would make a great pet for Katie. Yeah, I'm sure you know where this is going. The lavendar one struck up a friendship with the green one and the periwinkle one spent 45 minutes snuggled under my chin getting his head rubbed.
So......
I guess it would be best to pick up a bird for her on the way to Charlottesville and not allow me to go because now I am the proud owner of 3 parakeets. 3 nameless parakeets. I need help naming them.
The green one is quite a character. He speaks his mind and loves to get himself tangled up in his toys. He is usually found hanging upside down from the top of the cage or twisted in a knot with his toys. I was thinking of calling him Twister but I'm not sold on the name yet.
The lavendar one is quiet and very sweet. He didn't cause a fuss when I took him out of the carrier. He just let me pick him up, he stood on the palm of my hand without flying away and hopped into the cage with no problem.
The periwinkle colored one (female) goes from being hyper one second to wanting to cuddle. She is really a beautiful bird.
So.. any ideas on names? Stop me now before I get attached to another one!!!!!
