How many days do you need to go in a one year period for the annual pass to be worth getting?

I usually buy the 10 day no expiration ticket because we don't always go at the same time of the year or for the same amount of days. But if I can plan the next year - how many days minimum would I have to go for the AP to be worth getting instead of the 10 day no expire option?

Thanks

Kelly

The regular AP with DVC discount is currently $414.29 - the 8-day MYW parkhopper with the No Expire feature is also $414.29. A 10-day MYW PH with No Expire is $536.76 . Tax is included in these prices.

With the DVC AP you break even on Day 8 and are ahead on Day 9 as long as you will use the pass over more than a 14 day period - otherwise the numbers are a little different if the No Expire feature is not purchased. If you will use less than 10 days, the MYW with No Expire may still be better since the unused days may be used anytime in the future.

These figures are not including taxes.

Doing simple math:

An annual pass costs $489 less $100 as a DVC member = $389 divided by 10 days = $38.90 per day.

A 10 day no expiration pass costs $504 divided by 10 = $50.40 per day.

However, you can only use the annual pass during one 365 day period. The 10 days passes you mentioned do not expire. If one year you use only 5 of the days then you can still use the other 5 days two years later or more.

We bought an annual pass this year as we have two trips planned in 2010, 8 days in March and another 9 in October. Any time we plan trips for more than 10 days in a year we will consider the annual pass. However, we are still new DVC members, joined in May 2009. In the future we might not go to the parks everyday like we do now, so may choose to buy 10 day no expiration tickets. But right now we like to dine in the parks as well see the attractions and do the rides on a daily basis so an annual pass works better when we have long vacations or multiple trips.

Without the discount, it is about 10 days that you have to do in order to get the value. However, as members we do get that extra $100 off, so makes it about 8 days. But, you also have to take into consideration the park hopper ability and the discounts that you will get. As an AP holder, you can also get the Tables In Wonderland card that will save you 20% on most table service restaurants which will add up fast.

My DH and I decided that if we only do 1 trip per year, we are going to get the 10 day MYW with Fun and more with no expiration and split it up between 2 trips, but if we plan on more than 1 trip in a year, the discounts on dining definitely help so we would do the annual pass. All depends on what you plan on doing each year.
