We're having a costume parade at school (I'm a 7th grade teacher) for Halloween this year and I'm trying to decide on a costume. I would like to be Tonks from Harry Potter but my husband says that no one will know who I am. I was going to dye my hair pink, dress kind of "Punk" carry a wand and a broom. An adaptation would just to go as a punk; dyed hair, fake nose and lip ring, dark makeup. (100% opposite of preppy me)

My other thought is to be a pirate. I have a pirate costume, but I was a pirate 2 years ago.

Or, I thought of being a witch. Black dress and witch's hat, and the broom.
In the past I've been Little Bo Peep, a Maine hick, a pirate, and a crazed cannibal. I have a reputation to live up to! I might also be the MC of the parade. I was last year. I'm the drama teacher so again, I have a reputation of having a good costume.

Help! What would you do?

All the kids will know who Tonks is and even if they dont its still a good costume. DD says maybe add a cloak.

Tonks! (And I agree about the cloak, if you have one or can find one.)

Well if I was dressing up I wanted to do "Project Runway".

I think your idea of going "punk" is awesome. I would just leave it at that and nix the Tonks idea.:thumbsup2

oh please. like a bunch of people in middle school wouldn't understand Harry Potter reference (even if it is a little on the obscure side). YEAH RIGHT!! i bet most people would assume that you're just a punk, but those in the know, would know. :thumbsup2

i'm going to be Flo, from the Progressive Insurance commercials...i'm very pleased with myself for that idea, hahaha.

Go for Tonks, that's an awesome idea. Some of the kids will recognize her, and those that don't will still think its an awesome punk costume.

....off-topic, but I think it's kind of funny how you are probably an English teacher, yet you purposely spelled 'teacher' incorrectly in your username...:rotfl:

Thanks, guys!

Kimmar..I'm a MAINE English teacher. The last letter R doesn't exist here! :)

I love the Tonks idea!

I bet a lot of the 7th graders have grown up with HP and would know exactly who that is and if not, they would think it was cool and punk! :) Love it!

Definitely! That's a fabulous idea! Sounds really fun ^_^ I think the wand & hair would give it away to any HP fans. But, since you mentioned a broom anyway, you could always carry that as well as the wand =)

I'm personally a fan of wigs versus dying/spraying hair color, but that's just me ^_^

Ooh, you could go all drama on them & add one of her famous 'nose' tricks! I'm sure they sell some cheap nose options (pig etc) that you can use spirit gum to attach. Or go the easier-to-remove way and get the kind that just go around your face (I know they have cat/mice versions)

Sorry, costumes are sort of my thing LOL ^_^; Anyway, if you want to do punk anyway, you might as well get that extra reference in, right?
