Help me convince my wife to stay at the Cabins!!

Hi All,
So we have decided to book a trip for the spring of 2014 and I wanted to stay somewhere new and thought the cabins would be a great idea. We have stayed at all level resorts from POP to BLT and my wife has never complained about any of these resorts. However, when I brought up the idea about staying in the cabins she wasn't thrilled with the idea. I think it would be so cool to stay in a cabin for a week and save money on top of it! Riding a golf cart around the resort seems like so much fun too! How cool would it be to get off the MK boat, hop on your golf cart and part right in front of your home for the week! She also asked me if there was a QS or a place to refill our mugs and I didn't know the answer? Anyway, can you guys help me convince my wife that this would be an amazing place and that we would have just as much fun if not more than previous stays. As of right now it would be my wife and 2 year old son along with myself. My MIL might be joining us as well but that hasn't been written in stone yet. Thanks so much!

My sister who generally would pick grandfloridian as her top choice of picks to stay really enjoyed the cabins and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. You still get the maid service daily,(they even wash the dishes). She really enjoyed the atmosphere. You have so much more space inside and out. Its not cheap and most other disney properties are cheaper to stay at but I would highly recommend it.
We enjoy going to the parks and then coming back and touring the campground on our golf cart. There is also a nightly hayride (a few dollars a person)that we enjoy as well as the nightly campfire/show with chip and dale(no extra charge).

You can refill mugs at the pool and at trails end. Unfortunately no qs on property (hopefully that will change in future) but they do serve some sandwiches and snacks at the meadows pool.

I find that people who have made up their mind before they even try it,,well,,uh,,lets just say I'd chock it up to their loss. I usta be that way too,,not anymore. It's like food, folk will say "I don't like fish",,well how do you know if you don't like fish UNTIL YOU TRY IT !! If you don't experience it, then you'll never know.

There are a few QS options at the pool and Trail's End. You can also get hot refills at The Meadow Trading Post. The WL and CR are a short boat ride to get more QS options. We loved our first stay at the cabins. We were AKL and WL people before that.

I'll try to help but it depends on how you vacation at WDW.

Are you the type to go to the parks every day for most of the day? If so, then IMO you will miss the magic of the Fort.

The Fort is probably the most relaxing resort on Disney property. In the cabins you have the full kitchen, mousekeeping, and a door you can close to the bedroom in back for privacy. You have a big deck to enjoy the outdoors and a bbq grill if you are so inclined. And you can drive up and park steps from your front door. Looping in a golf cart is a popular pastime to check out the big RVs, different trailer types, tent setups, and outdoor decorations.

Since you have a young child, you might take them over to the campfire singalong and have a picture taken with Chip or Dale. It lasts about 40 minutes then they show a movie each night. Or they can have a pony ride (led by you or DW if they are old enough to sit up and hang on).

Spring is a beautiful time at the Fort (I'll be there myself in March) and we recently have had posters come back home after their first visit to the parks and they loved it. Ask her to at least try it this one time and she may become hooked like the others.

Thank you everyone! It sounds like a beautiful place for a vacation with tons to do! We usually hit RD each morning and back to our resort after lunch around 1 or 2, so FW Cabins seems so perfect! I did get a "maybe" from my wife today lol, we are getting closer ha!

I don't like cleaning fish....bet you are skilled in this area!
We want to try a cabin once the kids start bringing friends along on holiday. What a great mix- the Fort and plenty of space. The next best option would be a mega-bus camper like Will & Jada Smith have.

We have stayed at various levels of Disney resorts through the years; however, once we tried the cabins, my husband now refuses to stay at any other Disney resort.

We love how peaceful the loops and cabins are. Even if the cabins around you are occupied, in our opinion, you are not subjected to the area noise you experience at the other resorts – banging doors, toilets flushing, etc.

We are early risers, so it is wonderful to have a full kitchen available; too many times at the other resorts, we had to wait to have breakfast because nothing is open before 6:00 am – yes, we are really early risers. At the cabins, we can make our own breakfasts when we like and enjoy them on the outside deck – which can be very pleasant in the early morning hours. Since there is a full size refrigerator, we do not use the resort mugs, instead, we bring our own drinks and have access to them at any time.

After mornings at the parks, we like to return to the cabin for a quick nap, but, I like to fall asleep watching TV, while he likes to fall asleep reading a book, again, the cabins are perfect for this, I go into the bedroom, while he uses the murphy bed in the living room.

We drive to WDW and enjoy having our vehicle parked right in front of our cabin instead of having to wait for valet or walking to the parking lot – which can be a long walk at some resorts.

We tend to drive to all of the parks except the MK because you are correct, it is cool to hop on a boat especially since it docks right in front of the entrance to the park.

I hope you have a chance to try the cabins, thanks to them, my husband actually looks forward to our Disney vacations.

My extended family (10 in total!) and I just got back from Fort Cabins in the weeee hours of the morning Monday. (It's a long drive back to Canada!)

We ended up 'stuck' at the Fort so we could get the free dining, and my DH was just a bit (ok, quite a bit!) unsure about staying there... Until he saw it. From that moment on, he was in love with the place. DH went from 'this is our LAST trip to Disney, period.' to I think we have to come back a few more times, and of course we'll be staying at the cabins!'

We had DS8, DS9 and DNephews 12 & 13.. they weren't couped up in a room with four walls when we were at the resort - they were outside, looking for lizards, tossing a football, they even saw an armadillo behind our cabin! (although didn't touch it!)

It's the best of both worlds - all the amenities of staying on Disney property, with the comforts of space, a full kitchen and privacy you would get at home, or a rented house nearby.

We loved it!!

We've stayed at many of the different resorts at WDW but by far and away the cabins are our favorite. Previous posters have enumerated the many virtues of the cabins. Think too with the separate bedroom you can put your little one down for a nap while you enjoy the deck (with its own picnic table) or relax in the main room. With full kitchen and full size regrige you many find that you don't need to refill mugs as often. COnsider too the mugs now have an RFID chip in them to limit the frequency of refills for soft drinks.

The reasons we love the cabins, in addition to the space:

Ever get woken up by people walking up and down the hallway outside your room, yelling at their kids, running up and down? Never happen at a cabin.

Ever hear toilets flushing, showers running, toothbrushing from a room next store or above you when you're trying to stay asleep? Never happen at a cabin.

Ever get back to your resort after a long night at a park and then have to walk to your room for another 10 or 15 minutes? At the Fort, you can hop on a bus, or your golf cart and be at your cabin in minutes. If you drive, it's even better - you park right at your front door!!!

Ever get up early and want to relax, check your phone or read a book in private? You've got a full shaded deck outside, or a living room inside.

I can think of a ton of reasons why we love it. We love to cook outdoors, we love to watch the fireworks and water parade on the beach, we love Trail's End for breakfast and dinner, we love riding golf carts around the resort, we love Crockett's Tavern for a drink, pizza and nachos.

We LOVE the boat to MK.

We always thought we would stay at BWV or OKW on every trip, but after our last OKW visit with the herd of elephants upstairs, we realized how much we loved the Fort. Even though we can pretty much afford to stay wherever we'd like, we prefer the Fort over all others. The privacy, the nature, the space and the deck, the people - all great.

Can you tell we love the Fort???

If we stay at the cabins we will get a golf cart for sure, but how does transportation work for the theme parks and DTD? I read a quick blog that was dated, but it said that all buses go to the TTC 1st, could that be right? What about AK, DTD, and HS?

That was years ago.
Now it's a direct route. On the way back you have to drop off people at the WL however.

The WL dropoff is only for MK right? I thought I remembered the other parks were direct to and from the Fort. Am I wrong??

We take the boat and the order changes from morning to night. In the morning, the boyar stops at either FW first, then WL, then onto MK...reverse at night (or it's the other way around).
