Help me convince my kids to go to MGM!

Well, I have to go with Goofyernmost and others, just take them. For the last two trips, my son who is 9 and has not liked Animal Kingdom. But we go anyways, because I really like it and I wouldn't think of skipping a park.

when we last went in '99, my youngest was 6. He loved all of the parks, including MGM. I agree with others; Pizza Planet, Star Tours, TOT, Fantasmic, Indiana Jones show (he really loved this!), The Great zmovie Ride, Muppet Vision 3D . They were all great, the only thing we were disappointed with was the Sounds Dangerous with Drew Carey. BORING!!!!! But I really think your kids just need to give it a chance. Maybe encourage each family member to choose one thing to do at the park and go from there.
But when it comes right down to it, it is a family vacation and no one should ruin ir for anyone. If you want to experience MGM, they should be good sports about it. Good luck and don't give in!

Would any of them be interested in ToT and RnR? Those are the biggest and most thrilling rides in all of WDW!

Otherwise, just tell them that you are doing a day at MGM and take them. They will find things that they like, I am sure of it... but you may just have to convince them by having them actually go! We like input from the kids, but we also do what we want... and if that means they are a bit unhappy for awhile, so be it. It is your vacation, and you are the ones footing the bill.

our last trip my kids were 12 and 9. mgm is our favorite. we love little mermaid, beauty and the beast, star tours, tower of terror.rocken rollercoaster, great movie ride....we love the whole park....my kids wanted to go back there more than any other park...we always eat at the sci-fi....i loved who wants to be a millionaire...we loved it all

My DD is 8 and loves all of it, with the exception of ToT--- doesn't like the drops! She will ride RnR until she can't stand up, though! I think the MGM is skewed a bit older, but that is ok... not every park needs a Dumbo ride, and kids need to learn to appreciate other aspects of Disney.

There is plenty for those ages:
for the 4 yo there is Playhouse Disney, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Backlot Tour, plus the parade.

For the older ones... they should enjoy just about everything, with the possible exception of One Man's Dream and the Animation Tour.

Don't skip a park because someone thinks they won't like it. They won't know until they try... and also, because you want to do it, is reason enough!

Could it be that MGM scares them a little? My DD is 11 and still not sure if she likes TOT. She agrees to go on it because she knows I love it. Maybe you need to reassure them that they don't have to go on TOT and RnR, and emphasize all the fun things that they will love. Or maybe they just don't like "change". My DD always hated trying new restaurants. After several trips to WDW, where we have eaten at "new" restaurants MANY times, she's kind of over it. You might try promising a "reward", perhaps a souvenier you would have bought anyway, that can only by bought at MGM. Of course, I can't think of anything right now. Diana

Well, you all have ME convinced that they will like it. I've been reading all this to my 10 yo and she said to me, "It still doesn't sound all that exciting!" (What is wrong with her? Did she get dropped on her head when she was born? LOL!) We *are* going. I'm sure they will enjoy it when they get there, but I wish they were as excited about going as I am. :p

If I learned anything in raising my two children, it is that they hardly ever get excited about the same things you do. It is what I have seen so many times at WDW. Parents and kids frustrated, grumpy and stressed out.

Parents take the kids because they are sure that they will just love everything that they hold so dear. More often than not, they don't. So just go and don't make a big thing about it. If you just do the park, don't ask constantly if they like it, just let them be free to enjoy themselves. You may not get an immediate positive response but I would almost guarantee that they will eventually admit that it was all pretty cool. You can't make them like it and the harder you try the more they will resist. Stay mellow and enjoy it yourself, they will fall in line.

Here are some of my must sees at MGM

Startours
TOT
RnR
Fantasmic
50 Prime Time Cafe

Disnee Dad Says................................ Tell the 10yo to bring a penny on ToT. Find out when the long drop is, it always changes.
On the long drop , while holding the penny in your hand palm up, open your hand. The penny will levitate and begin to rise by itself like magic! That is because you are being dropped faster than gravity. One time we dropped so fast the penny rose to the ceiling and stayed there about a second before dropping. Can't do that anywhere else but MGM.

what a cool idea - i'm going to have to try that floating penny thing. Reminds me of the Superman ride at Six Flags Magic Mtn!

We usually do a half day at MGM. That might work for you. You can do AK in the morning and then head over to MGM for lunch. They have great restaurants like the Si-Fi, Prime Time Cafe, and the Character lunch. Then you can see the Parade and stay until Fantasmic. Don't forget they have the Playhouse Disney show. Your 4 year old will love it. Have fun:D

Great, now I want to do TOT and I am petrified of falling! This is the one ride that my dh wants to go on and I told him to have a ball, but now I want to see a penny levitate and may have to face my own fears. I read this to my dd and she said, "That sounds cool. Let me know how it goes." LOL!!! She wanted to do RNR until she found out that you go upside down. Now she says, "no way" and she doesn't want to do Star Tours either. She's my thrill seeker and she doesn't want to go on these rides!

Tell your DD that you do not even know that you are upside down ! It happens so FAST! I was a big chicken too about this ride but my 2 children convinced me to go on and it is fun! I agree with others on this board it is YOUR vacation also! Just go and bring them along. Choose the things you would like to see and do and tell them to look at the park map and check out if there is anything that they would like to see or do? Rememeber you can get in line and check out the TOT and then go out the chicken door if you do not think you can do it. They also have some of the best themmed restaurants here.Make a plan and go and enjoy! Tell the KIDS today is MOmmys DAy at Disney she gets to decide!! JOan

There is a whole different feel to MGM....it is almost like you are in Hollywood.....on a movie set.....I don't go on RnR or ToT, but it is just so cool to be there & walk around....it is my whole family's favorite park....I have a 13 yr old son & 6 year old daughter.....there was enough here to keep both kids excited....sometimes kids have a certain comfort-zone....sounds like your kids need a little push....hey, you're in Disney for goodness sake!!! How can anything there be bad!!! Have fun....

Did they get to hear you scream like their little sister? LOL!!

Tell your daughter that I too was a huge roller coaster wimp until RnR. I never opened my eyes on a coaster in my life and always felt mega nausea afterwards, until I rode RnR. The best part of the ride is that you have no idea what is up or down. You are in the dark with what appear to be highway signs that look like they are done in blacklight paint. It's so cool. I became a coaster lover after this ride. To be honest, I felt that Space Mountain was far rougher than RnR. SM is also in the dark, it's very jerky even with the slower speed. So, tell her to think about riding RnR. She just might have a good time in spite of herself.

Now, Star Tours is a bit jerky, but it's far from scary. It's neat enough to try once.

ToT is absolutely awesome! I love it. I have a huge fear of heights, but I love the ride. There is something really neat about catching big air when you fall, and if you are in a seatbelt, trust me, you will!!! You have to give this a try!!!

These are the opinions of a 35 year old that used to hate thrill rides. lol Mickey

MGM is my absolute favorite park for so many reasons. I love the Hollywood atmosphere, I love all the shows & the rides, I could go on & on about it. I have loved it since it first opened.

Personally, I think once you get yours kids in there they will have a great time. I wouldn't talk to them about it much any more because at this point even if they do feel excited about something you tell them they may act as if it doesn't phase them (you know how kids are).

I would just plan the day at MGM & go from there. I respect my kids opinions, we always ask what they would like to do, however, we definitely make sure we do what mom & dad want to do also. Sometimes they are not thrilled by it, but they go along & always end up having fun. :)

Go to MGM - you will be too disappointed if you don't.

My son has always enjoyed MGM and he's 9 now. There's so much more to do there than at Animal Kingdom and lately, Epcot IMO. I'm trying to talk him into riding RnR Coaster but no luck so far so we'll just have to settle for Muppets, Indiana Jones, Star Tours, Little Mermaid, the Animation Tour, the Great Movie Ride, Hollywood & Vine, the parade and Fantasmic.
