I am nervous. We have spent a lot of $$ and I have heard so many negatives on this resort. I have longed to be a DVC owner and now that We have finally accomplished this feat I have seen so many boards saying this us such a terrrible resort. What do you think? :moped:

Last week there was a rash of postings complaining about SSR, but that was a first. By and large people have been saying wonderful things about the place. Every DVC resort is terrific in its own way. Don't worry about buyer's remorse; it's normal and it will vanish the first time you go "home."

It's not buyers remorse that I have it's just all of the terrible posts that dh and I have read. We bought 500 points so we can bring faily members then we rad that SSR was just terribleso I (we) were wondering if it's that bad. NWIM :sad2:

Everybody has a favorite resort. Many of the oldtimers like the feel of their resort and they can become disgruntled when a new DVC...especially a bigger one...upsets the applecart that they are used too.

First, if you go to SSR and don't like it for some reason, you have 6 other DVC resorts to try. Just because that is your home resort doestn' mean you won't find another DVC that you like better. Most likely you'll find that you like SSR better for some types of vacations and another resort better at another time.

And just because another person has different tastes or different experiences, doesn't mean that you will feel the same.

Why not wait until AFTER you visit and then tell us all what you think...your opinion is the most important opinion when it comes to where and how you spend your money.

Rest easy,

There have been bad reviews of SSR and great reviews of SSR. What attracts one person repels another. Make up your own mind about SSR and remember these boards, while tremendously helpful for information, also contain lots of opinions. And opinions are just one person perception. My opinion is that SSR gets a negative reaction becuase of its sheer size and the fear that the new owners will make booking at the smaller resorts difficult. No one yet knows this to be the case. We own at BCV and SSR and are happy with both.

ThanK You all for the posts. We appreciate all the information. We are now planning a 3 day trip next week to see what we need to see.(SSR). :moped:

You sure did. Just think about all the dues money you're gonna' save over the years with those non air-conditioned elevators.

Go and have a great time patrenoe!!! Don't let negative posts create anxiety for you. It wasn't that long ago that almost every post about BCV contained complaints about service, room cleanliness, etc. -- now it's the most expensive sold-out resort to try and buy into. What can I say, we're a fickle bunch!

P.S. Don't let the cowbell guy scare you...he's harmless!!!

I have stayed there twice and I really liked it. It has a different feel than some of the other resorts but each of them has its own character. I liked being close to DD and the rooms are very nice.

Each owner has their favorite resort and that is one of the advantages of being a member because you can stay at any of them within the 7/11 month timeframes.

Go and enjoy yourself.

You did not make a mistake! You own part of DINSEY's Vacation Club!

You, like us are a special breed!

I too have 370 points at SSR.

Be Happy Don't Worry.

While booking a ressie at less than 7 months may feel like rocket science, it isn't, its Disney!

Welcome home neighboor with the mucho points!

-Tony

Pssst. I'll give you $22.45 a point if you want out!*

(* Dear Moderators, this is a joke, not a legitimate offer to buy another's DVC here on the DIS, which I know is not allowed. It was just a joke!)

This happened to at BCV when it first was selling, we bought at BCV's in 2002 and their was a lot of negative feedback, we had the same feelings. Now look...BCV's is one of the most popular resorts. Don't regret DVC, ALL of their resorts are FANTASTIC. We saw SSR in January when we went to Disney and it looked beautiful. There will be growing pains, there always is, but it will all be okay in the end, don't worry. :love2:

First -- Congratulations and Welcome Home :) And welcome to our little community on the DIS!

Second -- You did not make a mistake if you visit WDW frequently, can afford the program, want fabulous vacation lodgings, two very nice non-WDW resorts and some nice other benefits.

New resorts tend to get an abundance of press from this group. Each resort (DVC and non-DVC alike) will appeal to certain guests more than others. For some it may be the price, some the theming, some the location, some the amenities, etc. Thank goodness for variety! We have our favorites, but have enjoyed every WDW stay. We found something nice about every resort we have tried.

Enjoy your membership and some wonderful vacations!

CONGRATS and WELCOME HOME patrenoe :cool1:  :cheer2:
Don't let some of those negative reports about SSR get you down or make you doubt your decision to become Members there. Even though I have not yet seen SSR, I'm sure it's very nice because I haven't met a DVC resort yet that I didn't like. Besides, like some others mentioned here, I think each of the DVC resorts gets slammed for one thing or another from time to time.
BCV: poor housekeeping and rude CM's
BWV: long hallways, too noisey
OKW: condo/retirement feeling, not "luxury" enough
VWL: too dark, poor views
I must not be very picky or something ;) because I would be very happy to use my points at any of these resorts, and I'm sure I'll be staying at SSR in the future as well.
Relax and enjoy your new "home" ! I'm jealous at the amount of points you got ! That's terrific ! :Pinkbounc :bounce:

patrenoe.... We were in your same boat about 4 years ago when we purchased BCV. We had bought 600 points at that time and then we started hearing all these bad things about the resort on this board. We have since been there many times and added on 400 more points. These boards are a wealth of information for some things and I am very greatful to the people on here for their knowledge, but sometimes you have to read between the lines.

When we bought BCV, we knew and loved the BC area and we told the BCV's rooms would be a lot like BWV with some decor changes and few other small changes so we were pretty sure were would love the BC and we have not regretted it one bit. Have you done some research? Do you know basically where they are located? Have you looked at some picutures of the decor? Are you aware the resort is somewhat like a condo area in seperate buildings with outside entrances? If you are aware of all that and you are willing to stay at your home resort at times when that is the only place you can get, then you should be fine!

I love SSR,(been there three times). Just like all of the resort it has it's own feel. Each one is unuque. That is the beauty of DVC. I have been to almost all of the Disney resorts and this one is just as wonderful as the rest. Honestly, I think that people think too much :confused3 . Just enjoy your purchase. :goodvibes Have fun!!!

We bought into BCVs in 2003 after much research on all the resorts - SSR was just being offered. I agonized over the decision and worried whether I had chosen the right "home" resort until just last week. We took our first trip "home" to the BCVs, and they were wonderful :goodvibes

Now, you are probably asking yourself, why is she talking up BCV, when I own at SSR and am worried about that resort! Well, at the time I bought in, BCV was the one being bashed - a lot! Lots and lots of negative posts that worried me day and night. Only recently did the tide turn to SSR - sorry, but I breathed a sigh of relief. And before the BCV bashing, it was BWV being ripped to shreds. That is just the nature of the DISboard beast.

We took a quick tour of SSR when we were there last week, and while the resort is not for us (we're beach/hotel people), I can see why lots and lots of folks love SSR. The decor is the nicest of any of the DVC resorts. We saw a one bedroom and the Grand Villa, and we felt like we were in a really rich person's home!

Also, the place is very quiet, or at least it was when we were there. It is not a hotel atomosphere, but that is precisely why many like it. It had more of a condo/subdivision feel to me. FYI...we never made it to the main area of the resort (check-in, restaurants, etc.). We parked right in front of the "homes" we toured. What an advantage you have there! At BCV, BWV, and VWL ya got some walking to do - though it's not as bad as folks let on.

My suggestions to you...

1.) Do your best not to worry about your choice to buy-in at SSR. I worried for two years for nothing. I love our "home," and I have a feeling you will love yours. Something in your heart told you to go with SSR. If you had really wanted another resort, you would have been absolutely driven to pursue resale or checked with Disney to see if they happened to have anything else available at the time.

2.) Make your first stay as DVC members at SSR - this is a must in my book! I believe this is crutial, and I don't often see this advice. Your "home" is SSR, and since your first trip as DVC members will be magical, that will have you falling in love with the first resort you stay at. You want that to be your "home," not somewhere else.

3.) Remember the sequence of bashing that goes on (first it was BWV, then BCV, now SSR) and that maybe all the negative posts do serve a purpose to bring about change. Folks are all over the newest offering. There is obviously some truth to what they are saying, but it is their truth, not yours. Maybe they feel better bashing the new offering, so they don't feel bad about their own decision. And the bashing does bring about change at the resort. I mentioned the DISboards to a manager at BCV, and they said they are very familiar with them. They read these posts!!!

4.) Each DVC resort is unique and has it's own advantages. Honestly, I could make a case for buying into all of them! Just wish I had the money :confused3 I really believe DVC plans it that way. They want each resort to make you want to own there. VWL - Christmas. BCV - Storm Along Bay. BWV - Boardwalk GVs. OKW - Lowest Points and largest rooms. HHI and VB - the ocean of course! CR - Monorail. Oops. That one hasn't happend yet :rotfl2: Anyway, you get my point.

You have locked your family into a lifetime of wonderful vacations. How could you not have a good time at SSR. It's got beautiful accomodations, amazing GV's, drive up access to your villa, is walking distance to Downtown Disney and all that place has to offer, a great pool with what I understand is a great kiddy area. Seriously, all is well. No worries :)

First of all, understand that most of us are more inclined to post a negative comment than a positive comment. That's just human nature. Negative comments also tend to draw more responses than positive, so negative threads tend to assume a life of their own while positive threads die a quiet death. Some of the negative threads, quite frankly, are laughable - I read many of them only for comic relief!

Second, you will find many of the complaints about SSR are not really complaints. Rather, they are fears expressed by people who are concerned about how the place will turn out. It is still under construction, so we don't really see the whole picture yet. Most of those fears, I suspect, will be resolved as the resort is built out. It is also worth noting that many of the concerns expressed are from people who have never stayed a night at SSR.

Third, every resort has its cheerleaders and detractors. You will hear that OKW is too big, too spread out, too quiet. Boardwalk is too loud and too crowded. The dreaded long hallways at VWL. Beach Club is too small - can't get what I want there. There are sharks in the water more than 100 miles away from VB! The fact is each resort is different in location, theme, size, ambiance, etc. Every resort has a ton of attractive features. That is one of the best things about DVC - not a negative.
