HELP!! Jiko or 1900 Park Fare?

I know - it's a very bizarre choice.

We are staying at AKL and I REALLY want to go to Jiko. We already have ADRs for 1900 PF but it isn't all the remarkable, is it? We have been to 1900 PF for breakfast and weren't blown away - it was good, but not AMAZING. Is dinner THAT much better?

Our friends really want to see the Grand Floridian, but I told them we can just go walk around GF without eating there.

The dinner in question is for our last night, and I want it to be special. Also, it will be easier to eat at our resort and then decide where we want to spend the rest of the last night of the trip! So which should it be? Jiko or 1900 PF?

I like the Jiko!
You can go in and walk around the GF without eating there. The lobby is wonderful and they have a few gift shops.

I have never eaten at 1900 Park Fare, but Jiko is one of my favorite restaurants, plus have my favorite server at all of WDW, Shellie! If you decide upon Jiko and are dining there Sunday-Thursday night, request Shellie and tell her that Michelle sent you!

There is another day of our trip that we are doing a late breakfast at Chef Mickey's so we can stop at the GF afterwards and stroll around. I really hope my friends say that is an OK alternative so we can eat at Jiko!

Never been to 1900, but brought friends to Jiko, and they raved about it. DH and I love it. The next time we're at WDW, it will be on our itinerary

My husband and I love Jiko!!Wonderful food, wonderful service and wonderful atmosphere!!! You can't go wrong!!!!

To me since Jiko is our favorite place to eat at WDW that is the one I would pick. We stayed at AKL last year and it was so nice to get dressed up and just stroll down to Jiko from our room. It was so nice to not have to hop on a bus and go somewhere to eat.

I am hoping to take the little culinary tour at some point early in the week to get everybody excited about Jiko! Then perhaps they will forgive me for cancelling the 1900 PF ADR, because I think that is what I am going to do very shortly.

I AM the designated planner, and it IS my birthday trip, and we WILL still go see the Grand Floridian, so I really don't see a problem.

I'd take Jiko, IF your friends have the $$$ to spend (it can get costly, although you can always split appetizers and deserts) and they're somewhat adventurous eaters. Some people particularly like the various choices a buffet offers and there will be no question how much the meal will end up costing.

I've found it is often gets tricky travelling with others. It requires some compromise and willingness to discuss things openly. Your idea of 'special' may not be their idea of 'special'.

My husband and I had our first experience at Jiko a few weeks ago. It was great. Try it if you can.

We had the spring rolls, wood-grilled filet mignon with macaroni & cheese and the pistachio creme brulee for dessert. It was wonderful.

We will have the dining plan, so we have the option of using credits and paying OOP for something less expensive. The thing is, I think we'll come out better using our DDE card. That also gives us the option of sharing appetizers and desserts if we don't all want our own. I'm not one to pass up my own dessert, but I could share an appetizer.

I e-mailed the menu from Allears to them so they could look at it. I don't think selection/price is too much of a worry. They just really want to see the GF. I also think they were imagining something much more elaborate at 1900 PF. I told them it is not any fancier than Crystal Palace, so maybe that will sway them!

I REALLY hope the combination of going to GF another day, 1900 PF not being fancy, and the fabulous Jiko menu convinces them that Jiko is a great place to go on Friday for dinner because I did call and change the ADR.

It sounds like it will be a party of four adults. If that is the case then go with Jiko hands down. If you enjoy a good piece of steak get the filet over mac'n cheese. I know it sounds funny but it it amazing. We have always enjoyed our dinners here. We are big fans of the AKL and you are so right that having a nice dinner in your own resort is very relaxing.

Close - four adults and one almost-10-year-old. DS will be fine with the choices on the kids menu at Jiko, and he will have PLENTY of other character experiences (Crystal Palace, Donald's, Chef Mickey's) so missing Cinderella at 1900 PF won't ruin his vacation. He enjoys characters, but by the last night he will have had enough.
