Hi All ~ I love LIMEWIRE!

I've been downloading Disney monorail speech, ride speech, opening & closing park music, parade & fireworks show music!

I've listen to them all at work with the kids! haha! Sandra

I know what you mean. I just downloaded the Soarin' music the other night. We also have doom buggy music and SSE.

The Disney lawyers would like you to turn yourselves in.

It's legal in Canada.....that's why we pay a 25cent royalty on every CD we buy.

Cool! Can you provide me a link to an article or government web site that shows that in fact is the case and is a Canadian Law.

I'm pretty sure that right now it is just illegal to SELL downloaded copies of music and movies in Canada. My ex bf worked in law enforcement and that is what he always told me. I had actually seen a police officer once come in to flea market and cart out a huge box of pirated stuff this guy was trying to sell. But I heard that the copyright laws in Canada were supposed to change this year or last, so I won't chance it!

I don't have a website link.....I just have my FIL who told me....he is YODA and I trust him.

I'm not selling music.....I'm loving it! Sandra

Hi ~ I just Googled a bunch of websites about the legal issue....

Seems it's legal to download, but illegal to upload.....I don't understand that.

In Canada, we pay a royalty on blank CD's and MP3 players that's how it's legal here.

Blessings, Sandra

Ahhh the friend of a friend story.:goodvibes

I believe there is some kind of tax on recordable media, but I'm not too sure about the P2P sharing laws.

Just havin' a little fun.

Enjoy the downloading.:thumbsup2

Canadian record labels had asked the court for authorization to identify 29 alleged file swappers in that country, in preparation for suing them for copyright infringement, much as the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has sued more than 1500 people in America.

But the judge denied that request. In a far-ranging decision, the court further found that both downloading music and putting it in a shared folder available to other people online appeared to be legal in Canada.

There is a link to a news story about the Judge's decision that specified that the act of downloading is technically legal in Canada.

It is true we can download but not upload. I have heard that from MANY different people as well as the workers at some stores that sell music CD'S and RW cd's

Happy Downloading!

Canada always has been a little bit more slack in terms of some copyrights than other countries. That's why the music association in the US has labelled us as a pirate haven. :)

In terms of cds, there is a 'levy' that is applied to all sales of blank cds in Canada. If I recall correctly, it's something like $.21 per cd. (So a spindle of 50 CDs already has a $10.00 levy attached to it before it hits the shelving. I was buying a 50 spindle for $10.00 at the Virgin Megastore at DTD the last couple of trips.) I think that the proper word is 'levy' and not 'royalty' and not 'tax'. The 'levy' is paid regardless of how you use the cd. This 'levy' is basically collected and paid out to authors and musicians and so forth, based on some sort of calculation. It's more complicated than that, but that's what happens to the 'levy'.

Now in terms of copying, Canadians have had the ability to copy any cd that they own, *once* for years and years if I remember correctly. Sort of like falls in to the realm of backing up your critical data and critical software. We can copy something *once*...

The naughty part happens when you copy 'something' and give it to someone else (distribute). This is clearly against the law and you can do stuff like pay a fine or spend time in jail for it. Unfortunately, the law enforcement agencies in Canada would rather do stuff like pursue murderers and child beaters and wife beaters than prosecute people that copy cds. Copying is such a soft crime that it's basically overlooked by a lot of people, hence the state of the music industry in the world today.

You are not alone. I just went crazy and bought the CD. We purchased while in the parks- the 2 disc set of the parks- we listen to it in the car!

I have also splurged and got the family the Disney Classics CD's- it's great to hear all the songs I grew up with as a kid! (I still have my old 45's of which were sent to us as Mickey Mouse Club Members- or something like that! ) LOL

We love the Welcome Song from MK Main Street USA.

And currently can't stop singing
"We are siamese if you please...." :cat:

drakes,
can you please tell me the name of the 2 disc set of the parks?
Thanks:)

we purchased 2007 while in the park, it was the "latest' version.

I think the title is Walt Disney World Official Album
On the cover it has Mickey with the park icons swirling around him with the blue background.

I will double check when I get home :thumbsup2

On LaughingPlace site I see they had a version for the Happiest Celebration on Earth. (not sure if allowed to post a link to their site- so I won't)
