Help... I want to book trip insurance but can't book flights yet

With the third party insurance policies I’ve used, you tell them the nonrefundable costs when you first get the insurance, and as you add more nonrefundable costs to the trip you call and add those to the insurance. So as you add flights it might cause you to have to pay more for a higher premium. It’s all easy though.

We did this for our last cruise; I called to add the flights and they adjusted the cost based on the new total. You could also book separate insurance for just the flights.
We booked through USAA

The airlines I use (American, JetBlue, Delta) all offer insurance when you buy the flight, so that is an option also. (Southwest burned me twice so I refuse to give them any more of my money and have no clue if they insure or not.)
