Okay... I think I messed up big time. We bought into DVC last week. I got all excited and told my sister we would love to have her and the family with us for Thanksgiving. ( I also offered a private vacation in the summer for her and her family with our incentive points, but she said she would rather be with us)...

Allrighty.. so I thought we could squeeze into a 2 bedroom, but it looks like I was way off. This is the breakdown...
My family: me, my husband, 13 year old, 7 year old, 3 year old (in crib).
Her family: her, husband, 18 year old, 17 year old, 13 year old, and 11 year old.

Can anyone help me figure out how I can pull this off? I have only 270 points ( I know I can borrow some from the next year, which I was planning on.. ... but I didn't want to take all of them)..

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know at BLT, 9 plus 1 in a crib can fit in a 2 Bedroom Villa.

How many nights are you staying? You can save points by staying less nights. You aren't going to fit in a 2 bedroom. You can choose the 2 bedroom and a studio....or go for the GV. The GV will mean less nights and more points. Good luck.

I'm not sure what to tell you - you need a Grand Villa (sleeps 12) or a 2 BR (sleeps 8) + at least a studio (sleeps 4). Even in a crib, I think the 3 year old counts as a guest -- I think the rule is "under 3". It really wouldn't matter, it's not like you're only 1 over a 2 BR anyway.

Stay at a lower points resort, like OKW. Don't stay the weekend, just during the Sun-Thursday days. Stay in a cash reservation room(s) the other nights? I just looked up OKW for Sun-Thurs and SSR for Sun-Sat and you get - you can see the difference! Actually, I couldn't believe these numbers, but I double-checked.

Disney's Old Key West Resort Three Bedroom Grand Villa 11/22/2009 11/26/2009 165 (vs 310 at SSR for the same dates).

Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort Three Bedroom Grand Villa 11/22/2009 11/29/2009 610 (vs. 430 at OKW for the same dates)

We would like to be there the 21st through 28th. my sister's family will only be there the 22nd through the 26th. My husband and I would like to stay on two more nights.

We have our hearts set on Animal Kingdom.

I'll take any ideas! Thank you in advance!!

If I did the math correctly, you can stay in a studio and 2 BR AKV - value room for 313 points for those dates.

Do you have 270 a year? That's not bad -- you'd only be borrowing 43 points from the next year. 270 points is a lot (there's never enough, but that's still quite a few!).

(That doesn't take into account part of your party leaving early, so that would be less points yet. I wouldn't get a grand villa then if everyone is not staying all the days) -- that's a bit complicated due to the room sizes and your party sizes (5 and 6), but I'm too tired to figure that out!!

Reserve the studio for the 21st-28th and the 2 bedroom for the other nights. There is a DVC point chart at the top of this page. Play with the points to find the room category you want. I would choose a SV for the studio and a V for the 2 bedroom.

You will probably need to book your home resort to get Thanksgiving dates. So, I would definitely shoot for AK.

Okay.. wait... If I reading this right... the last two posts... say...

get a 2 bedroom for the nights we are all there and then a studio for the nights they are there?

right?

let me go and see point wise...

thank you!!!!!

i'll be right back

I may have told you wrong. I don't remember....will the three year old count? If not, you can have 4 plus the baby in the studio. If the three year old counts....you will need a 2 bedroom for the entire stay and the studio for the nights the other guests will be there.

Or, you can reserve a GV for the nights your family is there with you, and a 1 bedroom for the days you are alone which I believe will cost 403 pts. (check my math, I did it quickly). With four adults and four teenagers --2 of which are probably pretty much adult size--a GV might give you more space when you need it and you can all be together instead of splitting up a family (ie: the studio only sleeps four, so your DSis, DBiL and two kids will be in a studio and two of their kids would be with you).

You are better off adding the extra nights at the beginning OR end of the trip. I didn't realize you could get the GV for so little points...that's if you can get the nights desired. We don't know how hard it's going to be to book during holidays with the new rule.

If you move your date by 1 day to stay the 22-29 and your faimly still come 22-26, this could work. You in a studio(SV) for all days = 132 pts. Sis in a 2 bedroom(SV) for all days = 179 pts. A total of 311 pts.

I'm probably selfish, but if it were my first trip on my points, I would want to stay in the 2 bedroom unit and give sis the studio. Either way, whichever family is in the studio will have to have one or two kids sleep in the 2 bedroom unit with the other family due to occupancy limits.

I cannot thank you all enough for your help. I truly appreciate it.

LizzePooh... I totally agree with you! We do want to be selfish. This is our first trip to the resort we have wanted to stay in big time. They can cram. I'll take two kids "on my side" :rotfl:
