Long Story, but we planned a trip to Orlando for August with my SIL. We decided to use Spirit Airlines, as the flights were only $68 each way. Anyway my SIL booked her tickets, then when i went to do mine, i ended up getting timed out right after i put all of my info in (including my credit card number). So not knowing if it went through, i wanted to wait and make sure i didn't get charged before doing it again. So i waited thinking that i had plenty of time to book, i kept checking prices, they didn't change, until this week and now the flight i was looking at is now over $400 more, aarrggghhh! I can't really book a different airline, as my SIL thinks i already booked my tickets and we are flying out of AC.

So anyway after looking around i find that Orbitz and Travelocity have the same flight for about $240 less than the Spirit website, so i am thinking i ought to book it

My questions are..............

Has anyone booked airline tickets through Orbitz? Anyone got a check from their price assurance, thinking if Spirits prices go down and someone books for cheaper, maybe i could get some money back!

Do you think Spirits prices will go back down?

Is there any other website that i should check for tickets?

TIA

Are you saying that Orbitz and Travelocity have the same Spirit flights priced $240 LESS than the Spirit website?

That doesn't sound right at all. I can't imagine a price difference that great.

For the future...if something like that happens again there's no need to wait that long to see if a charge "went through". You could have called Spirit and asked if you had a reservation booked, or called your credit card company to see if the charge went through. I'm not sure why you waited days and days to check; even looking at your CC account on-line would have revealed whether a charge went through.

I didn't wait days and days to see if the charge went through, i knew that a couple of days later. I just figured that we weren't going until the end of August, so as long as i booked with in the next week or two i should be ok, i guess i should have know better.

The flight on Orbitz is $880

On Spirit it is $1140

So actually a difference of $260

Just remember with Spirit they nickle and dime you with charges for seat location and luggage.

I would keep waiting at this point. Spirit prices always go up and down. I always say I play Deal or No Deal with spirit every trip. They keep changing the prices and eventually they'll go down again. And your trip is in August so you have some time. Check back again next week.

I can't speak for orbitz or travelocity, but I did book a flight with priceline and I will never do it again!

It was a business trip, and I needed to coordinate my flight arrangements with kids/babysitter schedules back at home. Once booked, Priceline (or the airline) changed my flight a number of times. I had an extra layover and departure times had changed. And it appeared I just got bumped, as the original flight I booked on was still available.

I was able to get everything back I needed with a phone call, but it was one added stress that I did not enjoy.

Like I said, could have been the airlines fault, but just in case, I will never use the service again if I am not able to be flexible with my arrangements.

On thing to keep in mind, if you do wait, you may not be on the same flight as your SIL, their prices may drop but there is no guarentee that her flight doesn't get booked up.

I would really make sure those sites have the actual seats...sometimes their info is cached, and you don't find out that they don't actually have those seats at the good prices until you're well into the booking process.

Sorry your flights went up. :(

So the flight that WAS $68 each way is now $1140? $575 each way?? OMG!!

no problems.

I hate the airfare game...it's more frustrating than pin codes! :lmao:

Book.

we've used priceline many times and never had an issue.

Have you checked Expedia? When we booked our trip (ours, and my friend booked her familiy) they were cheaper than Orbitz.

I'm a nervous nellie playing the waiting game (you should have seen me wait 3 weeks to coordinate with our friends) so if it were me I'd book instead of wait. Good luck!

I purchase tickets on Orbitz all the time-never had a problem-in fact i just bought tickets to Europe on Orbitz-we are flying Delta (blah i know but 400 dollars cheaper and a better intenary than anyone else). but i booked on Orbitz because they offered me routing that Delta did not on the return.
I just booked flights to Orlando for a couple of weeks from now for business-we have to book thru our corporate travel site-when i was done i went and looked at the same flights on the airlines (Frontier) site-would have cost the company 167 dollars less if they let me book direct-but its not my $$.

I always book through Orbitz, because of the price guarantee, and have not had a problem. Never received a check for the price guarantee, but I figure if the price is the same or better, then why not? It is very possible for the online agencies to have a better price than the airlines since blocks of tickets are allocated to the online agencies. I would look at Kayak.com and go with whoever has the best price.

Finally got chance to sit down at the computer again, went to look at Kayak, their Spirirt airline price came up pretty high, so i checked Orbitz and wouldn't you know it their price has now gone from $880 up to $1248 for the four of us

Oh i give up!

I have used bing.com travel with great results when purchasing airline tickets. When you search for your flight, they will let you know whether you should buy a ticket now or wait: they tell you what the odds are of the price going up or down, and give you statistical info supporting their odds.

It helped me save almost $100 on a plane ticket to NYC, so now I always check it to determine when to buy. After I know the prices and have decided to buy, I go to the airline's website and book through the airline directly.

Good luck!

With prices that high I would wait until Tues to book. It's very normal for prices to go up on the weekends. Prices to fly and book are typically low on off days. I usually book mid week and fly as close to mid week as possible. Just a theory. Good Luck!

Do you have to be on the same flight? if not, try to look into airtran as well.
