I just found out that the Piston's Victory parade will be tomorrow at 11:30 about the same time I want to be arriving at Metro Airport for my WDW trip!

In other words I have a feeling we will be traveling to Detroit on I 94 about the same time a LOT of other people will be wanting to.

I was planning on leaving the Battle Creek area about 9:00a.m. before I found this out......should I leave earlier now?? If so, how much earlier?

If it were me........I would leave at least an hour earlier, but I would probably actually leave two hours earlier. Better to be there too early and bored out of your mind, versus being stuck in traffic and not make it in time!

You may hit SOME traffic, but DTW is WAY before downtown Detroit. It is always good advice to leave early. If you are flying NWA, the new terminal is fun to explore and there are really decent places for coffee and food!

Enjoy the trip and be sure to write a trip report when you come back to Michigan.

My thoughts exactly, Dan!!! LOL :teeth:

However........we have oldest DS arriving in the Lansing airport at 7a.m. He's going with us. We were going to wait til he got home around 8:30 and then leave for Detroit. Maybe we should go pick him up at the airport.........AHHHHH!! Decisions! Decisions!!

I will be glad when I'm hangin' at the Dolphin pool tomorrow night!!!:smooth:

Remember also, that you are not actually going into the city of Detroit to fly out of the Detroit airport. Detroit Metro is in Romulus (about 15+ miles before you even get to Detroit)and you will be getting off the freeway long before you will be hitting the traffic jams for the parade. If you are wanting to arrive at the airport the same time as the parade is going on you will be fine - the crowds coming from the West for the parade will have already passed the airport area before you want to be there. The airport area won't be affected by the parade.

Will be keeping my eye out for you if you end up too late....our flight from SAginaw lands in Detroit at 10am, FRIDAY!. If you get too caught in traffic, my girls can keep your sons company!!

I think you will be fine since you are coming from the West - like Pinnie said, DTW is way before Detroit (it's not like you will have to pass through Detroit or anything).

Have a GREAT time at WDW. I am SO jealous of you. Have a safe trip and enjoy! :)

Hi,

No advice here. Remember, it took me over an hour to find the Lansing airport last month, LOL.

It will all work out and have a great trip!

I want to hear how that Mummy ride is at Universal!

Thanks Herc! I will definetly tell you about this Mommy riding the Mummy!!!:teeth:

Here's my new travel plans.....will pick up DS at the Lansing airport at 7 a.m. and then head to Detroit's Metro, hopefully beating all traffic and enjoying coffee for hours before our plane takes off!!!:bounce:

Actually, I don't think anyone coming from west of the airport going east on 94 to the parade downtown should even take that route if they know any better......the construction is just AWFUL on 94 just east of the airport.....backed up forever!!!!!

Back April 28 picked up MIL from airport and took usual 94 route there.....going west.....the other side (east) was sooooo bad....decided to do a BIG round the block thing and took 94 west to 275 to 696 (for those who know)....it is about 15 miles longer though...to come back to my house.

Same thing when I took her back...I stuck to 696 to 275 to 94.

Infact.....I just drove DH to the airport Monday......was there again (around the airport area) today and have to go back on Fri to pick DH up.....

Long drawn out story...sorry.....to just say.....94 east bound right in front of the airport is a nightmare!!!!!

Coming from the Lansing area, you may hit some traffic on I 96 at that time of morning, especially around the 12 Mile area where the construction is. You will be hitting that area at the tail end of rush hour, so don't be surprised if things are backed up. Once you pass there, it should be smooth sailing on I 275 to the airport.

I drove down from Mt Pleasant yesterday and made the drive from Lansing to ! 275 in about an hour. Once you are on I 275, you have about another 30 minutes to the airport.
