I am making these low carb breakfast meatballs....when low and behold.....no minced onion in the house.....no onion powder either!!!!! Can I substitute w/a regular ole' onion?????? Or is it totally different than "minced"???

My neighbor isn't home either...and I am sure he would have it and I don't feel like running up to the store.

Thanks

Lisa

just chop your onion up very fine, or throw it in the blender on chop. It will work.

Yes, you could easily substitute real minced onion but it will add some carbs. don't know how many and it is probably not worth counting, unless you are being very strict with your carb counting.

Remember that minced onions are DRIED and therefore significantly less in volume and size. You'd have to shred your onion really small and maybe adjust the amount to make it work.

Regular onion will also add some moisture, which may make your meatballs not hold together as well as the regular recipe.

Thanks guys!!!! I kinda thought you could. I am going to give my neighbor a 1/2 and if he doesn't get home I will do the onion

Thanks again
Lisa

Wait I am confused.... minced means cut up into tiny pieces.... any old onion is going to be an oinion until you mince it....

preshi -- they sell dehydrated minced onion in the spice aisle. i think that's what lisa is talking about. :)

Oh.... huh... interesting. I would assume that if a recipie said minced onions that I would mince up some onions not reach for a spice bottle.... I didn't even know they came like that!! Neat! Ya see you learn somethign new everyday... :)

Ok....neighbor just got home but no minced onion!!!! Anybody have a bottle of it that can tell me if it says the equivalent thingy for a regular onion????

I know minced garlic has it listed.......

Thanks
Lisa
