Although I'm not new to WDW, I'm new to these boards so I first want to thank everyone for the wealth of information you have provided. I will do my best to contribute any helpful tips I can on the forums, but this time I need your help.
I still have three days left on my 4-day Passport from 1989. It's the kind that they date stamped. When I purchase it I was told that the remaining days would be good "forever" and I'd like to use them while I'm staying at POFQ in February. During a trip with my family last year I showed it to the CM at the MK turnstile and she said she had never seen one before and that I would have to go work it out with guest services. As I was touring with some impatient people on a tight schedule I just used the newer park hopper that I had been given by my daughter instead.
I do understand that I won't be able to use it at AK because it predates that park, but how do I use it at MK, MGM and Epcot? Has anyone had experience with this? Is it something that I can handle with the hotel guest services when I arrive before I go to the parks? Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

I just used mine from 1988 this past Nov.
You can use them in ANY of the 4 parks. You go to guest relations right before you go into any of the parks. You give them the ticket and they will look it up in the book. They will then issue you a ticket that is current. No charge.
You must do it at one of these guest relations stations at the park. It is very easy and they are used to it.I did it with a few that I had left over.

Thank you MrsJ Henry!
I will handle it at the park. What a relief -- I really didn't want to have to purchase another park hopper this time.

Figuring the best value will be achieved from that old pass (4 days originally, 3 days remaining) is a long story. To start, you need to:

1. Exchange it at no cost for a pass with the same park days that fits the turnstiles,

And,

2. Use it during a Disney vacation for which you need one, two, three, eleven, twelve, or thirteen theme park days.

(For vacations of four through ten days, you are better off cost wise buying a new ticket for the entire vacation and saving the old ticket for the future. Example, you have 7 days to enjoy. A new 7 day pass costs $212. If you buy a 4 day pass instead, it costs $197. and you expect to use the old 3 day pass to finish your vacation, the cost difference is $15. so that is all the value you got from your old 3 day pass! But if your vacation is 3 days or less, you can save $60. per day by using the old pass and not buying a new one. Trade it up towards a new pass in one move? It's worth 3/4'th its purchase price, I am guessing $60. total, better then my 7 day example but far less than $60. per day.)

As you exchange the old pass, ask for it back as a souvenir, they will stamp "void" on it.

Thanks SeashorePM -- I'm only going to be there for three days this time and am not sure how soon I will be able to go back, so I think I'll probably just use it now.
