Help: How do i not offend guests?

We're planning on a Dis Wedding in 2011. I've always wanted a small wedding, and due to family issues wanted an excuse to not have a lot of them there. DF liked the idea, but he has a big family (His dad is 1 of 8). And his mom would make our lives a living hell if we didn't have something celebrating it at home. Plus there's a lot of people I want to celebrate with, but don't want at the Dis Wedding (due to money isses, etc...) I want only people I know and love there on the specific day, but I'd love celebrate later on at a bigger party. DF's family are all volunteer firefighters so we're going to rent out the fire house, probably shortly after the wedding and honeymoon. We plan on possibly wearing wedding attire, watching the ceremony, and just having a good time.

Besides I've always had a hard time choosing things, so this way I get a big and a small wedding!


Also I say if people get upset at not being invited or about having a reception at home, or whatever I say: It's your wedding, you do what YOU want.

I really need to keep telling myself that it is my day for me and my dbf. You guys are right and i really should do what makes me happy and not worry about what everyone else thinks. I need to post that somewhere around my house to remind myself and to de-stress. Thanks everyone.
