Help. Housebreaking puppy.

until the puppy is housebroken make sure you tell everyone in the house when they take puppy outisde they do not play with him. Outside is potty business.
Let him do his business, bring him back in the house for a few minutes...then take him out to play. Many times what happens is the puppy goes out, whoever takes him out starts playing with the puppy and then brings puppy back inside and forgot that the puppy didn't go to the bathroom. Like a kid being potty trained, the puppy gets so excited to play they *forget* to go.

Not exactly necessary to bring the puppy in, then back out to play. But play shouldn't be done until the deed is done. Play can be the positive reinforcement. Puppy learns that when he does the deed, he gets to play. When the deed is not done, there is no play.

And take the puppy out every hour on the hour. Don't wait until you "think" it needs to go. While out, continuously tell it "go pee". As soon as the deed is done, then reward with treat and play.

We used bells hanging from the back door and everytime he touched them, out he went. Worked great. Cooper was trained in a matter of a couple of days.

We used the bell method with our Cookie. She learned it only too well - anytime she wanted more attention she rang the bell! Harry learned from watching her and still rings to go out 13 years later!

We use the bell here too.

However "the bell" has grown into a blob of birdbells, a windchime, some Christmas bells and a couple of school cowbells. You know when they need to go out or be feed.

One of my dogs starts ringing them when it is food time.:lmao:

Well, we have him blockaded, bells, schedule, etc., and are making progress! Thanks!
