my mom has been violently ill all day. she recently returned from a trip to see my brother and grandparents. my grandparents said that on the news there is confirmed norovirus cases around the city, i looked it up and it doesnt say much except highly contagious and nothing to help it go away. i am concerned because ds and I both saw her yesterday, and ds was giving her kisses, and that is really the last thing I need around here thanksgiving week! mom is feeling better now, but now I am worried about us.

Any experience with this?

Norovirus are often picked up on cruises, luckily never on one of my sailings (knock on wood). Google it, you should find lots of info.

I had it in October, 2002. I was God awful sick for about 36 hours--it came on hard out of no where, and left jsut as quickly. I had not been on a cruise, an airplane, or anywhere except my usual work, home, grocery shopping, etc. I'm still not sure where I picked it up from. I think the only time I've ever been taht sick before was when I had influenza.

It is very contagious, mostly when people don't wash their hands well after using the bathroom. My DS and DH never caught it, neither did the other couple we were out with earlier the night I came down with it.

i had it 2 years ago. i was so ill and i couldn't drink anything - not even a teaspoon of liquid without it making me sick. i eventually had to go to the er and get an iv. it came on fast and only lasted about 24-36 hours. dh didn't get it though - just be dilligent about washing your hands and cleaning up any vomit. not to be gross, but i had never had such violent vomiting before.

like ducklite, i hadn't been travelling - i was just going about my normal routine. my doctor said that there are several cases every uear and most people actually do not get it on cruises - that's just where people hera about it the most.

Oh boy, if your DS was kissing your Mom in all likely hood he will get it!! It virtually strikes out of nowhere. You are fine one minute then puking your guts out the next!! Most children seem to spring back with only about 12 to 24 hrs of being down. Adults are a different story. It can be easy on them or really bad. I seem to pick it up every time it comes around here at Easter time. My sister infected the whole family one yr after Easter dinner. I was so sick after 2 days I ended up in the hospital with dehydration!! Ugh...Everytime I hear it is in our area I just cringe!!!

We had it almost exactly two years ago! We wereall miserable for 36 hours. It's highly contagious, we ended up giving it to our entire Playgroup.
