Hi all,

As a newbie, I was wondering if some of you seasoned veterans can help me with some info.

We leave Friday and are supposed to arrive to MCO around 1:30. For those of you who have followed the weather, a Tropical Storm/Hurricane has formed out of nowhere and is coming to greet us. What happens if the airport is closed and we can't get in for a day or 2?

What has DVC done in the past? I know this was a frequent problem last year.

Thanks!

DVC has been fairly acommodating of these situations in the past (we experienced Hurricane Frances last year), but as it looks right now on the tracking it would appear that the likelihood of the Orlando airport closing in the next 48 hours is pretty low.

This happened to us last year. We weren't able to get to Orlando until two days after we were supposed to because of the hurricane. They let us cancel those first couple of days, no problem, put the points back into our account. I hope you have a safe trip and it all works out for you!

One thing,

Our stay begins at the end of our UY. Our UY begins Sept 1, and I borrowed points to begin our stay in Aug. We leave Sept 4. I am wondering if they would still refund me the points to be used in the next UY?

Call your airline and see if they will let you fly to Orlando BEFORE the storm gets to FL. Many times they will do that to help relieve the crush of travelers from after the storm...especially since this doesn't seem to be a major storm.

You may have to keep calling the airline several times to see if they have allowed this to occur. It DOES happen that they will allow you to go early without a change fee. :sunny:

Cher,

Thanks but we can't do it. We have tickets to the Jimmy Buffett concert on Thursday, including back stage passes. pirate:

I thought about giving them up, but a friend is in his show, and I don't want to insult her by giving up our tix last minute. Also, it's Jimmy Buffet.

I was feeling really sorry for you with the storm news, but then when you mentioned Buffett... :cool1: . I am soooo jealous! Fins, Margaritaville, Cheeseburger in Paradise...Ugh!

Anyway, talk to the DVC. I hope that you have a great time at the concert, and have a very safe trip to Fl. "Come Monday, it will be all right..." :sunny:

I hope they put on lots of fuel. That will be the mother of all holding patterns! :teeth:

WOW!! Jimmy Buffet!! That's great. I wouldn't miss that either. :earsboy:
Hey, make sure you're not "wasted away again"...wouldn't want you to miss your flight. ;)

MJS,

Yes, but in my case, the relevant song this year is "A Pirate Looks at 40". pirate: :bitelip:

I will drink a Corona for you ... courtesy of Jimmy.

You are right! The babysitter would be pretty ticked at us too! :scared1:

You're just going to have to keep calling your airline. Although the storm does not look like it is going to directly hit MCO, the area is in the 40-60% probability of tropical storm force winds. Your airline may be in a position of having to repo crews and equipment, even if the airport does not close.

If you hit flight problems, just remember, "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere!"

Good luck!
