Hallo helpful friends we are thinking about coming to see the everglades and tour area for Christmas week few days. Hoping to find reasonable hotel need 2 rooms as theres 5 of us.I am sad as all my family overseas and cant afford air for us all this year.Looked at places by airport seem reasonable .Is there any where we could stay park car and take public transport not to good at driving busy cities.Any help very grateful for thank you so much.

You will need a car in Miami. The Everglades is not very close. I wouldn't recommend staying at hotels by the airport as there is it much to see there. We stayed in south beach when we go. You can walk from there to a few places.

I thought id drive to Everglades but leave car where did you stay? I will look in South Beach.Thank you.

We stayed at the Palms and the Betsy. You really should check what you are interested in and see the area they are in to check for hotels.

We did the Everglades last year. We stayed in Homestead at a Staybridge Suites. They have 2 bedroom suites with full kitchens at reasonable rates. They have free breakfast, heavy appetizers in the evening with beer, wine, and sodas, as well as free laundry. The two areas of the Everglades near there are very different from one another. Key Biscayne is also very close.

Homestead is close to the Everglades, but key biscayne is not that close. There are other areas that are closer but they are not really tourist areas.

You can see the Miami skyline from the Key Biscayne visitors center. It took us less than 30 minutes to get there from the hotel and it is very close to Homestead Air Force base.

We did tours through the park service. One is a tram tour and the other is a boat tour. Just google the Everglades and go to the National Park Service page.

It is not that far but 40 miles I wouldn't call it "very" close and how long that takes you can vary depending on traffic.

Can we avoid the toll roads i hate going through them since i got in wrong lane got honked at as i wasnt sure what to do never been through tolls before got in pass lane by mistake. If not where do i buy a pass?

Better make sure to pack lots of Off since Zika outbreaks are sky high in Miami

This is not true. There have only been 85 Zika cases contracted in Florida to date; Zika has only been found in two places, one neighborhood in Miami (and that neighborhood was declared "Zika free" yesterday) and Miami Beach. They are still working on Miami Beach but have eradicated a lot of Zika-carrying mosquitos there. This is per the CDC.

To answer the OP's question, I have to travel to Miami a ton for business and I really like the Courtyard Miami Homestead. It's fairly close to the Keys and central Miami, relatively inexpensive, and there are restaurants and a grocery store in walking distance. I think I paid $129 a night the last time I stayed there (in July).

I would plan on having a car if you want to see things like the Keys and the Everglades, as they're pretty far from Miami and I don't know if any public transportation that goes there. There might be, though - I always have a car through my work so if I bring someone with me we drive. I think it takes about 3 hours to get from Homestead to the end of Key West.

the tram ride is the closest to maimi isn't it. do you have to go to the farther entrance to do the boat ride?
which did you prefer? we have one day before a cruise to sightsee. tia
