What can cause excessive sweating?

DS has been experiencing this for about a week. I just went in to check on him and the blanket was almost soaked and he's only been in bed for 45 minutes.

Poor thing. He has a Dr. appt on Monday and I will surely be mentioning it to is Pediatrician.

Any advice is welcome. Thanks

I don't know, but mine does it too. Actually, both my sons are sweaters and teeth grinders and limited sleepwalkers. They don't actually get up and wander about the house, but if awakened while they were deeply asleep they will act very strangely until you can get them back to sleep.

My DS5 is the same way. As soon as he falls asleep that boys temperature hits the boiling point. I think he came by that fairly though cause I am the same way. I have to keep the AC at 68 at night and my bedroom fan is on high. I get so hot when I sleep that if I don't do that I will wake up all night long uncomfortable.

My DS also grinds his teeth, and has been known to sit up in bed and have conversations (not in any language we understand) with himself, and then lays back down and goes back to sleep.

Many diseases have "night sweats" as a symptom. I am assuming he doesn't have a fever (otherwise you would have mentioned it)

I can tell you that when my son does this it is usually when his grandmother covers him up with way too many covers. :rotfl2: Things got better when I switched to a looser weave cotton blanket and told my son to take off most if the covers once grandma leaves the room. :thumbsup2

This sounds Exactly like my ds (almost 7)!!!! He does all of the above and sometimes does get up in the night in his sleep (but it's always because he has to go to the bathroom, I just have get up and make sure he gets there cause he's not awake enough.) I thought it was just normal for him and haven't really thought of it as a problem. Do I need to get him checked for something? :guilty:

Just about everything causes sweating. Do a search on "diaphoresis," the Big Impressive Medical Word for sweating. :)

Web md is helpful. Just don't go overboard with the internet. You'll freak yourself out. I know this from experience.

Night sweats that are new need to be checked out by a doctor. Children who have always sweated at night I would not worry about. I don't, my daughter gets really hot at night and sweats up a storm. I think that is why she is so skinny! On the other hand my Dad had night sweats and ended up being very sick. But they came on suddenly and were not the norm.

My son has always been a night sweater. Like others have said, in some cases it can be a sign of illness, but usually it's just part of their genetic makeup. My son sleeps with the blankets over his head and his feet sticking out as well... :confused3 :confused3

I grind my teeth(my dentist has even commented on it) and talk and sometimes even walk (I don't go anywhere, but I do get up and walk to my bed room door and walk back to bed. I don't think I cna open the door) if I fall asleep in the middle of teh day or doze off watching tv or something like that, I do sweat in my sleep. I've done it my whole life, I never really thought about it until this thread. :confused3
