We are Disney newbies. Neither my husband or I have EVER been to Disney. I finally booked our June trip last night. I've been researching rooms for a few months. We are a family of 5 (10,8,5). We were set on POR, but when I went to book there were no more spring rates available for our dates. We were going to book 5 nights w/out discount. Then I checked Boardwalk Inn, and it was only a few hundred more than POR. So...I booked 5 nights at Boardwalk Inn in a standard room. I've tried to read through the Boardwalk Inn thread, but it seems a lot are at the villas or Deluxe room. Are we going to be happy with a standard room??? It's so overwhelming and I don't want to make the wrong choice.
Thanks.

I think you will be VERY happy with your choice...

Ive not stayed at BWI.... however last 4 visits across the pond at Beach Club...the resorts are probably configured similarly...and we've walked around BWI many times...

You are in WALKING distance of Epcot... and Disney's Hollywood Studios...

You will have a great Pool area.....

You will have a LOT of dining options... and nightlife options...

Every time we've stayed at BC....we've walked over to BWI for something... Shopping, Dining, fun...

One time we rented a "Bicycle built for 4" at BWI and the 5 of us biked our way around the "lake"... it was so much fun... you may enjoy that too...

Your dining options (walking to) include Epcot, Beach Club, Yacht Club, Dolphin and Swan.
You have many other options... Illuminations cruise, watersports, etc.

Have a magical visit !

Mary

Was POR a standard room too? And upgrading to BWI was only a few hundred more? Wow you lucked out!

Ok well money aside, boy did you make the right choice imo!!!
You have so many perks at BWI. First this is a deluxe resort and at disney...that is saying ALOT. The jump from moderate (POR) to deluxe is big. Anywhere on Disney property is nice and a vaca at POR would be great too.

But BWI has big pluses..The biggest plus...transportation. The time and convenience you'll save on transportation is huge! You can walk into Epcot in 5 mins...walk there for the morning, go back to the hotel pool or nap...then go back into Epcot for dinner. So convenient...for goodness sake you almost feel like you are staing within Epcot!-You can see the beginning of the fireworks show, Illuminations, and the top of the Eiffel tower in world showcase from your hotel. Gorgeous. You can also take a short boat ride into Hollywood studios..which is a fun way to get there in itself. :)
The resort...its stunning. The theme is awesome. The food/options are awesome. The pool has a themed slide and zero entry...values and some moderates don't have that. The Boardwalk at night comes alive, with surrey cart rentals (so much fun!) performers, acts, etc. Everything is just up a level.
The decor of the standard rooms is really nice..very high end feeling to me. I don't see how you'll be unhappy with it.
In all...its a no brainer to me.

BWI is lovely, you will have a great time. The ease of popping over to Epcot and Hollywood Studios is wonderful. The ride to Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom is a bit long but not awful. It is a fun and lively Resort, kids will have fun, you will enjoy the upgraded feel, the amenities, the Dining Options and evening entertainment. Soak up every Magical Minute :)

My hunch is OP meant that BWI was only a little more with the discount vs. booking POR w/o the discount. That having been said, if you can afford it, you should go for BWI for all that you will be getting out of a deluxe resort! Enjoy it! What a great first WDW experience to give your family!

I always stay at POR, but I am falling in love more and more with BWI. My dream when I retire is to stay there.

I am jealous. Go for it!

You made the right choice & you will be very happy! We have stayed at the BW many times, twice in a BWI standard room. We had a view of Epcot & the Eiffel tower!! We could see the higher fireworks from Illuminations on our balcony! I would call back and put in a request for Epcot view.

The rooms are gorgeous having been remodled recently and like others have mentioned the location is fantastic.

Like everyone said, I definitely think you made the right choice! The BI has so many great benefits! You won't want to stay anywhere but a deluxe now though! ;-)

You will like it. I loved the room, it was so pretty.

You are going to be spoiled!

Oh and in the lobby check out the beautiful carousel. If you sit on the bench and wait a bit, it moves and plays music. I thought it was cool.

We have two kids similar in age to yours - we love the Boardwalk. We stayed there while researching DVC properties and decided on BWV as our home resort. As previously mentioned you are so close to Epcot and Hollywood Studios.

However even when you are not at the parks.... there is so much going on at the hotel. The pool is great, they have entertainers right on the boardwalk doing shows, the walk around the pond is great. One night we almost missed our dinner reservations because our kids were so mesmerized by a magician performing on the boardwalk.:)

Enjoy your trip !!!
