My DD starts 6th grade in 2 weeks. She is fine now, even excited. But next monday she gets her schedule and then we will be calling her friends to see who is in her class, or even her "team" (4 schools merge in to one school)--if no one close is in her classes but they are on her team I think she'll be OK--if Laura, Grace, Kelsey, Melissa, Emily and Nicole are all on different teams, then we will have a problem!

My daughter was in that kind of position. Most of her good friends were in other cores (or teams). She was sure that would be horrible, but it worked out for the best. She made loads of new friends that came from other schools and she still sees her old group over lunch. Middle school has broadened her horizons. It's been very good for her.

My DS starts in 3 weeks - he's nervous, especially since most of the kids from his elementary school are going to the other middle school (our wierd zoning).
