Hi,

I need help. I have my DS (8) and DD (11) are interested in Adobe Flash to create animation and games. I want to make sure I get the right program. I realize the importance of them learning how to do things that I will never understand. However, I need to at least understand which program to purchase.

Thanks for any guidance!

Thanks for your help.

They ask for Adobe Flash. They already amaze me with Power Point and Adobe Elements.

When I went to Adobe's website to check on Flash software there seem to be several varieties. I was looking under the Student and Teacher versions.

Thanks again. The DISBOARDS are an amazing resource!

To be clear, the tools you'd need to create animation and games are listed under "For developers". FlashPlayer is just a player, not a creation tool. Here's a better link that highlights creation, rather than just playing. Be forewarned... Flash creation tools are expensive.

I know it's completely not in the same ballpark as Flash, and you can't create games, but my kids (9 and 11 at the time) really loved creating claymation videos using Claymation Studios. Much cheaper than the (more powerful) Adobe programs, and they had a total blast. They did some neat effects.

Like I said, I know it doesn't really compare, but just thought I'd toss it out there!

And not to take anything away from Claymation Studios.... but please let me just put the interest in Flash in a little bit more context, that might really excite OP.... While things could change over the next decade or so, the reality is that, right now, having an understanding of how to create and manage Flash applications is ridiculously valuable. The kind of skills teens (at least) would be gaining from learning what they can about how to work with Flash could very-well lead them directly into an internship in my office, with no other credentials other than a willingness to learn other aspects of system design. JMHO.

Thank you so much for your help. So I was going to buy Flash Professional CS5 but it looks like they would need Flash Catalyst CS5, Flash Professional CS5 and Flash Builder 4. Is that correct or could they get started with Flash Professional CS5 and Flash Builder? Then later (in the budget) I could get the Flash Catalyst.

Thank you so much for your help. I really do appreciate it.
