I'm on DH's computer because I can't get mine off powersave. I've tried unplugging everything and restarting but it starts in powersave and the monitor says Dell then it enters powersave.

IT's not an old computer but I have everything on there and I didn't back it up,
can anyone help tell me how to get it off powersave please!

I have no idea what this means, how to do it, or if it would help. But I asked hubby, and he assumes a certain level of knowledge, and here's what he said:

They may need to go into their bios prior to boot up to Windows. Or if it is a laptop, take out the battery and then restart. This should break the powersave chain.
Otherwise they should boot up the computer into safe mode and see if they can edit the powersave option and then reboot into normal mode.

Hopefully someone will come along with something that sounds easier and doesn't involve taking batteries out, LOL.

Thank You for asking!

It is a desktop and the screen is black just a little power light comes on that says entering safe mode when I turn on the computer. It's not a good time to have to call the computer repair guy with Christmas coming up but I've tried uplugging everything. I can't get anything on the screen to see what to do:headache:

Is there a little battery icon at the bottom right? Is it empty? If so, you have a battery issue. If not or if you are plugged in , it may be set for powersave. Try clicking on the battery if see if the powersave option is checked.

This happens to me too every once in a while and it is a pain in the rear. What I do is push the power button for a few seconds. Not enough to turn it off, but longer than a second or two. After that I move the mouse around a bit and a minute or so later it is back to normal. If anyone has an easier method I would love to know.

I had my computer guy from Mobil PC Doctor come to the house he ended up having to take the tower to his shop. He says it may be the motherboard. It hasn't been used a lot do you think a computer will act up more quickly if it is shut off for months at a time?

Assuming you are on the internet with it.

If you have an anti-virus program that is not up to date is like having no anti-virus protection at all. New viruses are written everyday if not hours. The virus data base has to be current.

If you don't have one, the very first thing to do is get an anti-virus program installed and keep it updated!!

The very first thing to do, if it is not set up automatically, when you log on is to update the anti-virus data base.

If its really a mother board issue-anti virus-the internet and so on have nothing to do with it-nor does being powered off for months at a time-computers are made of fragile components-a certain number of them -even those in the much vaunted macs-go bad or get damaged by installation or power surges and there is not much you can really do about it.

desk top
right click on the desktop and then choose properties.
Choose the `Screen Saver' tab.
Then click the power button.
Set your power setting so the system NEVER goes off.

didnt work ~ next step

Restart you computer and hit the `F8' key repeatedly. This will take you to your bios. There will be an option for power saver.
