I have a split stay starting tomorrow. First half on free dining at CSR, second half on rented points at OKW. I have always heard that the DVC resort can verify the reservation 4 days before arrival. I called OKW this am and they stated that they cannot verify the reservation to anyone but the DVC owner prior to check-in. Is this correct? Do I just show up and hope for the best???
Please help!
I do not think the DVC owner would do anything shady-I just want to verify my reservation before I get all the way to Orlando.
What should I do?
Thanks!

Did you receive a copy of the confirmation from the owner? They should have mailed it to you, and perhaps if you did not receive it they could fax it to you before you leave?

When you called OKW did you just ask to confirm your check in date and your name? The resort should have that information. If the ressie is under the name of the owner, however, you will definitely have a problem at check in. Your name needs to be on it to check in. Call the person you rented from right away to straighten it out. Good luck!

I do have the yellow sheet from DVC confirming the reservation in my name. However, I rented the points and made the reservation back in March and I would just feel better if I could confirm the reservation with the front desk at OKW before I show up in case there may be a glitch. OKW front desk said they do not get the reservation in their system until check-in. This contradicts everything I have read on these boards.
Any ideas?
Thanks for your help!

It is possible that OKW might not have the ressie yet since check in there is next Sunday. You could perhaps have the owner conference in a call with you and them, so you could hear the confirmation. Otherwise, I would try again Friday which is a couple of days before check in. OKW should have your name and date in the system by then.

I would just ask the owner to call, confirm and report back.

Asking the owner to conference the renter in makes extra work for the owner, and doesn't do anything to make the renter more secure. The renter has no idea who is being conferenced in on the call. If the owner is scamming the renter, they'll just conference in a scammer instead of MS.

I have heard that DVC is not going to confirm rentals due to the large volume of calls from people checking them. This is something members do not do, since members can call Member Service.

I know that it seems to make you feel better to call, but truly after you call your reservation still belongs to the member and if they are dishonest they can cancel after you call. Which is the way Disney probably sees it too. That the call is truly not going to help.

It is a false sense of security.

The renter could dial the conference call thereby ensuring they are not being scammed. And if they are being scammed, better to find out before they arrive at OKW.

I can tell you I stayed 3 weeks ago at the Grand Californian on points, and I called the hotel directly a couple of days before check in. I provided my reservation number and name which the front desk had, and conducted my business without any problem. I would still try calling OKW a couple of days ahead.

I just called the owner and spoke to his secretary. He is out of town and cannot call for me to confirm the reservation. She assured me nothing has changed on the reservation. I guess I will just go and hope for the best. I do have the yellow reservation confirmation sheet and I absolutely trust the owner not to try to scam me-my only concern is that there is some kind of screw up on Disney's end (hey-it can happen!).
Thanks for everyone's comments and help.

Have you stayed at other Disney resorts before renting?

If the renter dials the number, they will be on the call when the owner gives out their membership information. I wouldn't recommend any owner allow that.

I'm all for renters not being scammed. I just don't want to see owners being asked to jump through hoops that don't make renters any safer.

Well, who here would be surprised by that?

Disney is doing everything they can to slowly make rentals more and more difficult

I agree, it makes sense.

The burden was shifted off of Member Services to the resorts. The resorts are handling an influx of calls to verify reservations so now they are shutting it down also.

I think the confirmation pretty much tells you everything you need to know. It will have the renters name and address on it. Not directed at the OP, but after you receive that, you have to trust the process:wizard:

We rented points. We have the confirmation showing our ressie. I asked our renter the same question and he said Disney will not talk to us to confirm our ressie. He replied that if I had any concerns we could do a three way call with Disney if I wanted to find out!

I have stayed at several other resorts before-this is my first time renting. I think renting is truly the best deal out there when it comes to great, large accomodations at the lowest cost. I will just have to see how this plays out when I get there. And now I have the weather to contend with too! Oh well, I'll be in Disney and that's all that matters to me!

When you stayed at the other Disney resorts did you call the resort directly each time to verify your reservation?

If not, then I would say your concern that "Disney" might mess up this reservation is unfounded and you just need to relax and enjoy your trip.

Actually it is less complicated than that, the large increase of calls to the Front Desk, as only they can verify the reservation, was slowing the Front Desk down, from doing what they should be doing, checking in guests.

Considering how everyone hates to wait in line to check in, I am sure members will appreciate this move.

The calling to verify is truly not going to assure anything except false security so it truly is a waste of time for a Front Desk CM.

If someone, at a few days prior to arrival, is not comfortable with the person they are renting from, they should have gotten out long before then.

Not only do I ALWAYS call to check in with every room, not just DVC, I call to verify ADR's, and any other special events I have planned. This prevents any problem I might encounter upon arrival.
I have encountered problems on occasion, plus I am just a planner and like to confirm the plans I have made six months prior.
So I meant no offense to any DVC owner at all.

No offense is taking but truly you are not preventing problems from happening, as soon as you hang up something could change.

I am sure your trip will be fine, have a great time.

I never call - my theory is that the fewer times my ADRs or reservations or accounts are "called up to verify", the less likely something unintended will happen to them. (This is why we don't have caller ID yet on our home phone, even though it would be free since I used to work there. I am afraid they will mess something up for me, LOL).

Please post when you return and let us know how everything went. (I'm sure you'll have a fabulous time)!

Actually your theory is a very good one. Based on imput from friends in Reservations, Dining and Resorts the more times someone "handles" your reservation, the more you increase your chance of something happening to it.

The old adage of letting a sleeping dog lie, applies here too. :thumbsup2
