Help choosing days

Hi all! I'm planning a trip to California the third week of August and I'm wondering when you think would be best to do a day at Disneyland and a day at Universal. Touring plans says that Sunday is the best day at Disneyland and then we'd take a break and then do Universal on Wednesday. Does that sound reasonable? I thought that Disneyland was less busy on weekdays, but touring plans has worked well for me in the past. Any thoughts?

Are you talking about Aug. 16-22? First of all, beware of planning your DLR trip using crowd calendars (Most accurate crowd calendars?). They aren't a super reliable tool for DLR and work better for WDW. Next, be sure to check the AP Blockout Calendar to see when the lower APs will be allowed back into the parks (https://disneyland.disney.go.com/passes/blockout-dates/). It looks like the summer blockout lifts starting Aug. 17th, so expect a wave of local passholders to hit the parks after being blocked out for the summer. The weekend before the blockout lift might be good so that you can avoid that wave. Disneyland isn't necessarily less busy on weekdays -- Mondays are usually very busy (What’s up with Mondays?). Wednesdays are usually pretty good days in the parks. Also keep an eye on the date HM will go down for the Halloween overlay installation -- usually any time around the 20-something of Aug. If that ride is important to you, you'll want to avoid that refurb.
You might want to check in on the *** Official August 2020 Thread *** to find out about news and events going on around your trip dates.

Oh my gosh, I meant July, not August! I'm sorry! Thank you so much for all of the advice. Hopefully the APs being blocked will be good for us. I went on a Tuesday about five years ago and could not believe the crowds, we did a Sunday last year and it was a little better. We're flying back on Wednesday so that's not an option for us.

If your going in July I don't think it will matter what day you go. Expect it to be VERY busy no matter which day you pick.
