Help Changing Reservation for Desert Inn & Suites

I apologize for asking something that I should probably know how to do by this stage in my life, but this is the first time I have booked a hotel for our vacation on my own without going through a travel agency.

I have reservations for the Desert Inn and Suites for our trip next year, and they have dropped the price for our days, which will save us $70ish.

Does anyone know what the process is for getting the new rate? Can I call and request it, or should I rebook and then cancel the original reservation? Or is there a better option I'm missing?

Thank you for your help! :)

Cancelling your old reservation and booking a new one would be a simple process. I would do that before I would call in and risk human error being involved in the change.

Edit: also make sure that you get a cancellation email from the first reservation and keep it for your records. DI&S does put a pending charge on your card for the first night 48 hours before arrival, so also make sure that the card you use for the reservation will still be valid at the time of your trip.

Thank you, Cal-Pie! I appreciate the help!

I made a new reservation and then emailed them to cancel the first. I wasn't sure if they would do it without calling, but I just received a cancellation notice.

However, I am a bit nervous about which reservation they cancelled because for some weird reason, the booking number they reference in the cancellation not only doesn't match either of the reservation numbers they gave me when I made the reservations, they aren't even in the same type of format. Hmm... I might call them just to make sure they cancelled the right one.

I had that happen on a cancellation I made last year, it was a totally different number. It's probably best to call and make sure that they cancelled the right one. On the reservation page, there is a cancellation link down at the bottom, that can be used to confirm or cancel a reservation. You might try putting your confirmation numbers there and see what comes up.

Thanks for that tip and for all your help! Unfortunately, both are showing up as valid reservations AND they sent me two cancellation emails. Same weird numbers on both, but still. I think I need to call... Or have my husband do it once he gets home, since it is in his name. :)

I’ve had prices drop on different places and I just call and ask them to honor the new rate. No need to cancel first one.
