Help - Camera just died - Need advice.

HELP - Camera died need advice!!

We are leaving in less then 2 months and my digital camera just died.

We had a Kodak Easyshare CX7430 and it did a fine jobon our last 2 trips to Florida, but I cannot get my batteries to work (even bought new ones)! The new ones work in DS's camera but not mine!!!!

I am thinking about a Kodak V1003 camera. Does anyone have this one?

ALSO - Is it better to have a camera that uses regular AA batteries or a special rechargeable battery?

Please help. Would really like to stay in the $150-200 range for a camera.

I can only help you on this part, and this is my humble opinion only. I would rather have a camera that is capable of using easily purchased batteries. That way, I don't have to worry about recharging my camera all the time, just changing the batteries when I need to. I see it this way, if I have a proprietary battery that is difficult to obtain and I have to have it in the camera and on the charger to charge, then I might miss pictures because my camera is currently sitting on the charger.

OR, I can just buy a pack of AA batteries available in most stores and just pop them in, even if I only get 50 or so pictures off of them. Plus there are lots of rechargables with the AA size, so I can have a set of batteries recharging, and have extras in my pack.

Unless you are just set on Kodak, I would consider other brands. The professional reviewers hardly ever give them the highest rankings and almost never give them top of the category ratings.

Think about the features you are looking for before deciding. For example, are low lighting shots important to you? If so, then you would want to look for a camera with a large sensor (i.e. 1/1.6" instead of 1/2.5") or at a minimum has optical IS.

It might help if you told us exactly what you want out of it so we can give you more specific direction.

I prefer good LI rechargeable batteries. They last longer than AA's and I find them more convenient. I always have at least one spare, so I never had a problem needing extra batteries. I think rechargable AA's would be a bit cheaper, but you'll have to change them more often.

One other knock against LI batteries is that you can't put them in your checked bags anymore.
