HELP! Arcade game - am I an idiot??

OK, don't fully answer my above question - but how does this work??

My character keeps walking forward into the pit. The instructions were worthless - it didn't tell me what keys to push, etc. I assume the numbers on the pads are suppose to move my gal - but even though I press forward 2, she goes to her death.

What am I doing wrong!!!!!!!

<this is so pitiful - I should at least be able to do level one without a cheat sheet>

EDIT - OK now I see the continue button on the instructions. I feel soooo stupid Wish me luck with my next venture!

actually, no. You have to drag and drop the arrows and balloons to the floor and place them to "set it up" before you hit go.

Thats a very simplified explanation, but that is the basic idea. You have to basically solve the puzzle by placing the arrows and balloons, then walk through it in your mind, before you hit the go button.
