This sounds like an internet hoax but it's not-I saw the show they are talking about on Oprah-horrifying.

Yes, terrible, horrible.. but very common. These things still happen all over the world, not just in Africa.

It is common in Middle Eastern countries as well, and unfortunately common in India as well.
 
I thought I heard that she has since been spared???
