Help a future Imagineer?

Wonder if you can help me out. 12 year old grandson is becoming amazing at stop motion animation. Fancies himself and we encourage him to think this way as a future imagineer, not that I've ever thought WD is a specialist in stop motion. Do you know of any entry level software for computer animation out there or can you suggest where we can find it? An app?

There isn't a great deal out there in terms of simple Computer Animation software, the industry standards differ pretty greatly although most use a program called Maya which at one point had a PLE Edition. That being said due to his age you maybe better off looking at a program called Blender, the interface itself is not the cleanest and a pain to learn, but there is plenty of documentation and tutorials online which should get him started as long as he can get help when he needs it.
